Goodbye all you birds – it is Thanksgiving

You know which ones you are, the ones that are plucked and stuffed and ready to be put in the oven for tomorrow’s gigantic gorge-out day in the USA. Happy Bird Day everyone!

I’m off the hook with the foodstuff preparation, my sis is cooking up the feed and I’m expecting two of my sons to be there with four of my grandkids. I won’t be gorging. This is not a tale of woe, it’s a tale of ‘wake-up’ since I went for all the blood tests, urinalysis, dexascan, mammogram, and…I think that covers it. I was under the silly impression that Medicare would pay for something…you are silly Linda! So far I’m looking at over $1,200 in lab tests. OMG!

But the bottom line is I’m pre-diabetic, cholesterol is over the moon (but what’s new with that…that story starts way back in 2004 or so. I have a brutal time with statins and if you’re wondering what this has to do with poker, if I don’t lose weight and take better care of myself I won’t be playing it or writing about it without a drool running down the side of my chin as my eyes roll around in endless circles. That might be a slight exaggeration. I’m not sure I’m going to conquer the cholesterol issue but I’m working on it. My Dr. gave me a scrip for Lovastatin 20MG, I chop it into 4 pieces and take them spaced out throughout the day. He believes that if they are more of a time release they won’t rip me apart and destroy my one and only kidney…here’s hoping. I’m almost three weeks on that run and my armpits smell chemical, that’s not a good sign. I never have BO – unless I’m taking a statin.

The pre-diabetic thing has me on a low carb diet, not as extreme as Atkins but low and it’s been a bit rough. My favorite yogurt has 45 carbs per cup, the frozen blueberries with no sugar added that I like to add to the yogurt is 25 carbs per cup. I no longer eat any kind of bread. I used to never eat meat…now I’m a frigging carnivore…that’s how it feels anyway. In the last three weeks I’ve managed to lose about 10-12 pounds. My Dr. also says to beef up on the exercising and start lifting weights because my bones aren’t as strong as they should be. Does this guy know I push wheelbarrow loads of #2 gravel around the property and have planted 46 clusterberry bushes and 17 trees on the property?

Those holes were dug through the silt-pack straight from hell, I think I hit three that were almost like butter but the rest are sheer agony and they are three feet across and close to three feet deep. Not to mention five holes that I dug and had to fill back in because they linked into a line of unstable ground in the back that could be known as sink-hole-canyon. Add water, a channel opens at the bottom and the water just disappears, but that’s after I dug the damn holes. I need a witching wand that can signal sink hole issues before I dig back there again. And I still have to dig holes and move 11 plants that are on the wrong side of the fence to the right side of the fence because some dipball-braindead put the original fence about five feet over the property line to the west of me. And of course, I thought the fence was my property line.

This coming week is going to be my serious start of daily exercise, Scout needs to drop a few pounds too and it’s cool enough now that we can head out to the desert around 2:30. With the time change it’s dark about 4:30 now. I hate it!

So…enjoy Bird Day, whether you eat one or not, and give thanks for all the good things you have in life. I am! My treasures are many, my regrets are few. And if you find a recipe for low-carb brownies, be sure to ship it!

One note on poker – months after making the deal with PokerStars to acquire Full Tilt Poker assets (keep in mind PokerStars has already set up a payment plan for Full Tilt Poker players in the rest of the world) the Department of Justice still has not made a move to pay back U.S. players. A teensy glimmer of hope fell through the cracks yesterday as the DoJ has finally set a date for January 2013 when their appointed Claims Adminstrator should start work. WOW! Too bad we can’t say goodbye to all the birds that are disguised as politicans.

Hurry with the brownie recipe please!

  1. drool running down the side of my chin as my eyes roll around in endless circles>/i>

Just how I’ve always pictured you; truly the girl of my dreams.

  2. Happy Thanksgiving, Linda! Just finished a family feast with all five of us pitching in on dishes. The 16 year-old made an unbelievable cream of sunchoke soup with some kind of apple jam and pine nuts. A world class dish for the young man. I was actually in Vegas last weekend with a couple of buddies of mine. What frustrates me is that I used to be able to go, and if I had a good run at the poker table, could pay for the whole trip. Not any more. They try and get every single penny from you everywhere they can, and despite a straight flush at pai gow and a decent profit in poker, I didn’t come CLOSE to paying off the trip. Ah well, blame it on the wagyu beef dinner. Blessings to you my dear.

  3. This is the third day of a four day, non-official holiday. I’ve managed to collect several dollars of virtual money – I’ve asked the virtual site if their virtual money is transferable to a virtual store to cover the merchandice. I was informed via virtual mail that my virtual money might, if the virtual congress of the virtual US of A would approve virtual gaming sites containing vurtual random number generators displayed as virtual placards on non-exustebt tabkes.

I found my wish list vanished by a virtual breeze and didn’t see the non-official holiday slip away on the virtual thoughts.

  4. Jan, Thanks so much for stopping by. Sounds like you had a great Thanksgiving feed and the family is doing well. 🙂 The poker scene, I haven’t played in forever now. I’m sure I would remember how. Tee Hee. Even though you didn’t take home a stack of cash, I bet you had fun romping through Vegas.
