Monday in the Desert

Anyway I think it’s Monday.  Even with no scheduled time to really do anything – of course there’s always work – other than make an appointment to a Doctor or Dentist or meet with a friend, I still seem to manage to know when to pay my bills without being late.  That’s really nice.  As far as work goes, I work at odd hours and sometimes at banker’s hours.

I cranked out a little after 6 a.m. today so I could meet Amy for the desert walk.  We usually hit around 2.5 miles and with the time change, it feels a bit strange starting at 7:30, although that’s the time we were going anyway after the summer heat began to lessen.   I’m hoping to become beyond filthy rich soon so I can buy the area that we walk in.  It would be the perfect place to build my family commune – one of my long time goals – and still have an immense amount of quiet, desert terrain to stroll around in.  Amy is, of course, included in my family commune now when I hit the big bucks.  She’s unassuming, never pushy or irritating and has no need to sit on your doorstep, which makes her a perfect companion for me.  We meet for the walk, we jabber as we put in a few miles, she goes her way, I go mine, and we ship email back and forth sometimes during the day.  I really have no patience for people that just want to come and clog up your walking path in your house or take up space on your couch…I’m way to busy to be an entertainer. But back to Amy, we seldom ever disagree on a subject but we don’t choke the other one out by forcing a point.

Kind of interesting that she found – even if she may not credit herself with it – the glitch in the bitchwort excel file that I had posted about.  We talked about it on the walk today and she said she’d work on it.  This p.m., she sent me a screenshot of the excel file she’d been messing with and asked me to minimize the ribbon at the top of my file, and send her a screenshot.  I did the minimize but it didn’t show the form at the top.  I closed it and sent her an email saying so.  She sent me an email and asked me to send it anyway.  When I opened the excel file up, it was just like my excel files used to be before the glitch, and all the other excel files loaded correctly.  WOOT!  Now that I know the problem, it can easily be corrected if it should happen again.  She was trying to duplicate the whole effect and was part way there when she requested the screenshot.  I’m just happy to have excel back like it should be.  And I agree with her, why does Microsoft have to keep fucking with everything? And again, I thank everyone for offering help.

Yesterday found me yanking mistletoe out of Mesquite trees in the back of the property.  I have a few nice scratches in my arm from the mesquites and in revenge, I burned those big fronds of hanging mistletoe berries in my open chimenea.  Some of the mistletoe is too high to get to and even with a ladder, one couldn’t get into the branches to knock out the mistletoe – which BTW is an every two year project once you have mistletoe in your Mesquites (catchy little phrase).  The mistletoe kills the trees.  I had to look it up on the internet to find out how it works; birds sit on branches, eat berries, shit, shit sticks to branches and seeds start to grow into the bark of the tree.  Bad News!  I have a power washer…I plan on trying it to knock out the mistletoe.  I hope it works.

On the poker side of life, I head for Vegas this Friday to hang out at the Gold Coast for almost a week – rather hole up at night at the Gold Coast and spin off most of my day at the Rio watching the big bust-outs down to the one and only, main event champ of 2009.  The media release states there will be a room where players are interviewed as they bust out.  SHIT!  If I was one of the players, not sure I could just calmly head for that little area right away.  I might need a night to chill on it before I could answer any questions.

Now, busting out of an online poker tournament, I’m never at a loss for words.  I just busted out of one on Full Tilt Poker.  No need to go into bad beat, schmad beat because it was just poker.  I made one call I shouldn’t have and cost myself a lot of chips.  Bad part is that I knew it was a bad call.  Maybe I was hoping for the Eternal Luck Fairy like most online players hope for?  It didn’t happen.  I had a little over 3K left which wasn’t much to fade the blinds and antes and I went busto on Presto.  The good news is with online tournaments there’s always another one starting just a mouse click away.  See you there!
