Today was farewell to Chip Reese. His memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, the 7th. I debated going; since funerals are a strange subject for me to even begin to tackle, I won’t. I was given the information of the time and place and told that it was for my information only, no one else’s. The next thing I knew, I received an email from someone that must have wanted the world to know as it wasn’t a private email, it was a submission email. That email truly cemented my decision to NOT go. I felt it would be a total zoo and too many people would be there for it to even be close to sharing a farewell moment with others. not much about nothing
JUST KIDDING! It’s always about something. The Bloggers are coming to town!! There will be screaming and yelling and noisy drinking…a lot, throw in some poker and other crazy gambling bets, a bunch of fun, and the whole fling thing will be a complete success. I rarely keep up with the crowd, or have a desire to really, but I totally enjoy seeing them, playing poker with them, and having the opportunity to be part of the noise and fun. The tournament starts on Saturday – at the Venetian – some of the festivities start tonight. Continue reading not much about nothing
Chip Reese
The inevitable finish to our time on earth often leaves me with a feeling of peace and shock at the same time. There are no words to cover the whole of death, as it comes to each of us in its own way, sometimes with advance notices, sometimes like a thief under cover of dark, it takes our companions and friends, enemies and acquaintances, and loved ones, leaving a void that no one else can fill. I wonder at its simplicity, yet struggle with the complexity that is left behind. It’s part of the natural order of life. As I find myself in the middle of groping for the peace after the shock, I think the world has lost a great representative on the green felt and in life.
More on Project City Center
It’s kind of looking like a city, but not. It’s definitely outgrowing every thing around it. And picture taking isn’t as easy, nor interesting really. The Cosmopolitan now blocks a lot of the view from Bellagio’s parking garage and the structures are obviously much higher than the employee parking garage so the best views of it are from a distance. And yes, I could access the upper floors of the employee parking garage for a few photos – and may at some point – but most of it would be just looking at the side of a building. The panoramic landscape of ‘worker bees’ and machinery everywhere just isn’t there, most of it’s going on inside the buildings now. Continue reading More on Project City Center
Bellagio’s Conservatory transitions for Christmas
I called Wayne on Wednesday to see if he was willing to trek around Project City Center with me on Thursday. The foolish child accepted. It’s always wonderful to have a good friend to spend an afternoon with – especially when you’re going to spend it walking up and down the Strip and going into parking garages to access the best spots to take pictures from. And then to make it even better, lunch was on the agenda after the trek. Yes, a Project City Center update is coming. But first the Bellagio Conservatory teaser…it’s under construction – but what the hell isn’t in Vegas? The whole damn town does a major change-over every six months or so. Tuesday mornin’
My brain has barely began to slip into a functional mode, my first cup of coffee is almost gone (hell…that’s usually all I drink in the morning now, one cup, but it’s bigger than the average so I guess I’m cheating a bit there). Continue reading Tuesday mornin’
The Sunday after
Too much food, mainly because MOI is always afraid that there won’t be enough for everyone. We were expecting 14 or so adults, a few kids, and one baby. We had close to that amount but I over did it as usual and my truck driving sis was laughing at me – as usual. Vickie and I have close to the same views on food, MAKE SURE THERE’S PLENTY OF IT, but I always prepare too much. I believe it goes back to always remembering being hungry when I was growing up. That’s a long story and isn’t needed to fill in the blanks. Let me just leave it at the fact that I could never stand it if I cooked a meal and people walked away wondering where the main course was. The Holi-daze
It’s that time of year again, although I mainly see it as a seasonal change – knowing it’s time to start freezing my tush off – the rest of the US starts to gear up for gorging and gift giving. Today, of course, is Thanksgiving, tomorrow starts the biggest Christmas shopping day of the year. Continue reading The Holi-daze
Little set backs
I can’t help but wonder why computers can so twitchy, glitchy, and ultra pissy at times…but then they were made by humans, right? That should explain it all. Continue reading Little set backs
The great game of poker
I’ve spent more than a few hours playing freerolls on PokerStars and writing about them in Chasing Chris Ferguson. I can’t help but marvel at the fact that this is ACTUALLY a lot of fun. I think I ran out of steam with playing about three years ago but I just failed to stop and make a change. It’s hard to tell where that line is in a lot of things in life, not just in poker. We manage to drift into a rut and just stay there, we grumble-mumble about the dark side of things without ever making a move to figure out how to approach it in a different light, and consequently become jaded and look for a repeat of dismal failures to happen instead of stopping our lemming approach to the cliff of failure.
