Damned if I’m not already three weeks into the LOA and I’m nowhere. All those plans, right down the tubes so far,as if I’dfallen into a ‘blush tank’, gotten pig drunk and couldn’t figure out daylight from dark and assholes from elbows.
I’ve made several attempts – online satellites -to win a seat in the ‘big one’ at the WSOP. So far it’s not going worth a damn. As a matter of fact, it’s down right hateful. But that doesn’t mean I’ve given up. I also haven’t played any poker, other than the blogger event and the following night, I played $4-8 H with some fellow bloggers at Caesar’s palace – but that has to be in the WPBT post that’s started and saved until I can get back to it.

Comments are open on all the blogs at PokerWorks now. We are working out a few glitches; some of the comments that have been posted have been lost in the process of ‘bug hunting’. Please repost a comment if you have submitted one in the last week and it isn’t up. If you have a problem submitting one now, please send me an email ‘geenen AT pokerworks.com’ and tell me exactly what happened. And also if you submit one and it appears to post but doesn’t show in a day or so, please send me an email, the comments have to be approved so that’s why there may be a lag time in them showing up.

My annual trip to N. Idaho is looming up rapidly on the horizon. The question is, will the coach be ready for the trip? Will I? I recently had an online chat with my nephew’s wife Lora. Lora lives in Laurel MT, just out of Billings. We were discussing the trip and when I would arrive and if I was going. I stated that the only thing that would keep me from going would be health issues (yes…I’m in the middle of a mess of tests but I’m not dead yet and not planning on dying anytime soon) and the jacks for the coach. She asked if I would consider just driving up in the truck and staying in a tent again. I replied that the whole point of having a ‘mobile’ home was to take it with you on trips. *chuckles* The downside to the annual trip is that this year, I will be going alone. My little sweetie Kayanna has decided she wants to spend the summer with her mom. That’s the drag of kids growing up…they have other priorities. I’m hoping to be posting from the North Country in the 2nd week of August but only time will tell.

I’m now funded to play in a single table satellite for the ‘big one’ at the WSOP. That has to be on my menu in the next few nights. I may still see what I can find in the online venue and play a few events, if I don’t do well in the single table satellite – shoo, SHOO Card Fairy .

I have wanted to write about this particular incident for quite some time. Now is as good a time as any. During my last week of work – pre LOA – I was playing in a $4-8 H game at Bellagio. Glen – longtime friend of Jim AKA The Monkey and me – was playing in a $2-5 NLH game a few tables away from me. As I skipped by the table once, and stopped to say hello’, a hand was just finishing in which the dealer had the chips all in $100 stacks (why I don’t know) and there were over 20 stacks, somewhere in the neighborhood of $2,200 pot. HUGE! Glen wasn’t in the hand but he was telling me how great the game was. NO CHIT MON! Everyone had a lot of chips and they were in perpetual motion across the green felt.
About an hour later, I walked by the table as Glen pushed all of his stacks forward (about 6 or 7 of them) in heads-up play with the 2s. Glen was in the 5s, the pot had about $120 in it, the 2s was in ‘the tank’. I stood and watched the action, Glen looked up at me and I stepped behind him to watch. The 2s said something that appeared to be, “Show me a card and I’ll fold.”
The Flop was a Q with two Spades. Why and how? Glen flipped over a Q, pushed his cards forward, with a chip on the down card. That is Glen’s way of tipping as he believed he’d won the pot. His cards were not even close to the flop or over six inches from his hands. The dealer sat there, the 2s sat there, and then – HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN? – the dealer pulled Glen’s down card into the muck. Another player went into “His hand is dead, he only has one card!”
Now the dealer, still has the deck in her hand, asks the 2s what he wants to do. KEE-RIST! I walked immediately into the office and told Pete that he might want to come to that table because a decision was going to be needed. The dealer was yelling for a decision when we arrived. Skip appeared to make the decision. The dealer reiterated everything about the play of the hand, the 2s chimed in and said, “I said I MIGHT consider folding,” and I jumped in with, “Wait a minute! Glen’s hand had a chip on it.”
Glen turned around, “Hey thanks for remembering that.”
No one else brought it up. And I’m still trying to figure out why/how the dealer took his down card and mucked it. But WTF do I know.
Glen never argued about anything. While all of the hubbub was going on, he simply said, “Make a decision and let’s go on with the game.”
Skip’s decision was that Glen’s hand was dead. The 2s showed the A-10S, he had a nut flush draw. Glen’s all-in bet was returned to him, the pot was awarded to the 2s. Pete followed up by stating that the 2s needed to be very cautious of how he stated his action because it could be taken as misleading and create action that caused other action. Nice – Pete! And I’m still wondering where the chip on Glen’s cards went???
When I left the room for the night, I walked by Glen again. He gave me the giant ‘high five’ and thanked me for sticking up for him. I really only stated what I saw. He also said he’d learned a very valuable lesson and it wouldn’t happen again. Hopefully this lesson will help all of you that read here. Always protect your cards. Never say anything – when it’s your turn to act – that could lead anyone to believe you are verbalizing action…in most houses, verbal action is binding if stated when it’s your turn to act.

Early this a.m., the Vegas skies opened up with an incredible display of electric dance. The chorus of singing applause went on for quite some time, followed by a full force shower that swept the dust and remnants of mankind’s waste out of the air and off the streets. ABSOLUTELY FREAKING WONDERFUL!
