I dealt the $3,000-$6,000 to Doyle Brunson, Ted Forrest, Eli Elezra. H-y-s-t-e-r-i-c-a-l! Doyle had a brick of $100 bills that were rubber banded into $5,000 bundles and then bundled together…he also had three sets of two brown envelopes that were taped together which held cash but were unopened. Carmen Bates (High limit brush) came to the table on an errand and Doyle threw all of it at her and asked her to ‘put it on account’. That would mean a trip to the main cage and all of it would have to be counted down.
Ted told Doyle he would take it because he wanted some cash…”how much was it?”
Doyle said, “$110,000.”
Ted said ok but he didn’t have enough chips in front of him to pay Doyle for it. That was Ok too. They have all kinds of arrangements between themselves. Ted took all of it and stuffed it into a big, brown, mailing envelope and threw it on the floor by his feet. Eli told Ted he shouldn’t leave it lay on the floor like that, it could lead to a disappearance. Ted shrugged it off and said, “Just don’t let me forget it.”
I dealt hands; Eli and Ted changed seats; Ted took the envelope with him. About 10 minutes later, Ted pulled out one of the sets of two brown envelopes that were taped shut and together. He asked, “Doyle, did you count this?”
Doyle, “No.”
Eli, “Are you sure there’s money in there?”
Doyle, “I know where it came from?”
Eli, “From Harry?”
Doyle, “No.”
A few more hands go by. Ted opens one of the brown envelopes only to find a white envelope inside.
Eli, “What if it’s just paper?”
Doyle, “I know who sent it. As a matter of fact, I’ll bet the bills are all facing the same way.”
Eli, “From Mitch?”
Doyle, “No.”
A few more hands go by.
Ted opens the white envelope, sure enough, a stack of $100 bills. Ted, “Did you say you’d bet the bills were all facing the same way?”
Doyle, “Yes.”
Eli, “Are they?”
Ted, “Appears they all are.” Ted starts counting.
Eli, “Are you going to count all of them?”
Ted, “I’m just spot checking like security does at the airport.”
We all busted up. It was funny…but maybe you had to be there.
They took much better care of me when I left the game this time…I really do appreciate it.
