It’s sunny here in the desert

My video card in the desktop finally decided it was time to die…it did it in spurts, working and then not working, giving me a windows pop-up that there was a hardware problem but not enough info to know what device was causing the problem, of course I was reading the pop-up so I wasn’t sure it was the video card.  Two days later, I was positive.  New video card, all’s well.  Damn good thing since that’s the pc I torture myself with poker on.

Our PokerWorks Family tourney went off well, PokerHack and Clearspine didn’t show – Clearspine sent news ahead of time that he wouldn’t make it.  PokerHack was a no call-no show.  Maybe it snowed…

My sis was home and she played – took 1st place – Nice!

I put the super bad beat on Dave in an Omaha 8 hand.  I actually thought I flopped the best hand.  I had A-3-?-? and flopped 3-3-A.  I hit the last 3 for quads and he had pocket Aces.  He got pretty well pounded with some other big hands too…I didn’t do it all though, he took beats everywhere.  Andrew and sis went back and forth for quite a bit before a winner was determined, of course I was rooting for my sis…

That was on Valentine’s Day.  Of course a few days have gone by since then, although they haven’t escaped me, they seem to whirlwind at times.  There was more digging and planting as sis had a desert willow, that was growing under the mesquites and salt cedars in the front, that she wanted moved to the other side of the yard.  Linda’s backhoe service put on the silver slippers, grabbed the gloves and shovel, and tree removal/replanting was done before the rest of the world knew it had begun.  Not really, the root system on that little bitch willow was a doozy, and conveniently right underneath a low hanging mesquite branch.  I propped the branch a little higher with a rake and threatened the branch with complete removal by CUTTING IT OFF, if it fell onto my head or back.  It’s still in one piece.

We had a fire in the chimenea on Tuesday night, with Chad (Sis’s son) and Heather (Chad’s woman), and Rod and Sue (neighbors behind us)…Amy was supposed to come but she cancelled.  Sis and I sat with the pot blazing and glasses of wine (yeah, more than one) as we waited for the others to arrive.  It was fun.  We gabbed about nothing in particular and everything in general.  Life is good here in the desert, even with the flood of non-stop traffic from the bad neighbor’s side.

Amy and I have taken to walking the streets for our exercise program – rather than the desert – since the rain destroyed any semblance of walking without an acre of it sticking to your shoes.  Hopefully, in the next few days, we’ll be back in the desert again.  I’ll have to see if there are even any bones left of the dead dog, and check the sink hole to see if it’s grown.

The Party Poker Premier League is raging at M Resorts in Las Vegas.  I kind of thought I should go there but it was just a ‘kind of thought’ since I’m not going to make it.  I am hitting Vegas on Monday – it’s tax time for me – and I’m apprehensively almost ugly over it.  I’m sure I’m going to have to pay…pay…pay.  It pains me thinking of it.

I need a big poker win.  Property in my area is a dime a dozen and now is the time to start scooping, but my scooper has a hole in it.  Time to go see if I can hit a scooper.

  1. nvidia GeForce 6200 512mb ddr2 AGP8x. I took in my old video card and asked for one that was an upgrade to what I had, that had the same connections, etc. It’s a dell desktop – about 6 years old, still pretty freaking incredible with tons of memory and additional hard drives, dvdrw drive and dvd/cd player drive, with a sony flat panel monitor on it. I use a fujitsu lifebook laptop for my work machine. I love the dell and the fujitsu – this is my 2nd fuji, gave the other one to my son a few months back. I see I got carried away with my answer.

  2. It is kinda funny, I told Amy the other day when we were walking that she could thank me for ‘getting her up off her ass and out on the streets.” She was pretty much growing to a chair before I asked her if she wanted to start walking.
