Notes of Interest

The first notable, most interesting topic of the day is the finale of the PokerWorks H.O.R.S.E. tournament played last night on PokerStars – we switched from the 8 Game Format back to H.O.R.S.E. and it was amazing how much faster it played down than the 8 game.  We had 8 players and it was perfect, we were all seated at the final table.  There appeared to be some sort of glitch at registration though and none of us know the answer as of yet.  We had just started and had one seat open and it disappeared from view, as if we’d had a player there and they’d gone busto.

Yestbay1 came in a minute late and said he’d had the same problem as djhomeschool had a few minutes later, the lobby said registration was still open but when they tried to register, the ‘accept/cancel’ buttons must’ve changed in the default (or so they figured after the problem occurred) but Yestbay1 got right in and DJ was shown as seated and then timing out as he watched, not being able to access the game screen or the hand he’d been dealt.  The mean streak in me forced me to type in chat, “I hope you have Aces.”

The chat was a lot of fun with Clearspine stating somewhere about half through that he hadn’t typed in anything that was factual yet in the chat.  Bluffer’s Chat was in the mix too!

The results of the tourney came out like this:

PokerStars Tournament #185300741, HORSE
Buy-In: $5.00/$0.50 USD
8 players
Total Prize Pool: $40.00 USD
Tournament started 2009/08/09 21:00:00 ET
Tournament finished 2009/08/09 22:15:41 ET
1: clearspine (Boulder), $20.00 (50%)
2: grupper (**), $12.00 (30%)
3: djhomeschool (Denton TX foo!), $8.00 (20%)
4: yestbay1 (Grapevine),
5: PokerHack07 (Alturas),
6: PokerWorks (Las Vegas),
7: msacesup (Nashville),
8: cmacc85 (waycross),

msacesup and I had a running chat war about who would go bust first – it was really a coin flip…and she won but I was right behind her.  I had A-2 off in the $200 BB of LH and a little over $400 left when Grupper raised it, I wasn’t throwing my hand away then, I ended up all-in and managed to come in 3rd place out of a 3 player race.  Grupper had Aces.  Clearspine had the nuts – from all-in in that hand to winning the tournament, we were all skillfully outplayed by Clearspine as he beat us into submission and took home bragging rights and the big bucks – and you can read all about his awesome play on his blog.

To another note of interest, Riot was with me for a few days.  As we sat at the breakfast bar having our evening meal, he informed me that he was going to take all of my food and go to his dad’s house.  I panned the anxiously concerned look and did a, “Really?”

“Yes!  And I’m going to take your games and your TV too.”

“You are?  Oh my.  What will I do?”

His eyes searched around my small confines as he ate and he continued, “And I’m going to take your coffee.”

I really went into the fear mode now, “Oh MY!  Not my coffee.  How will I survive without my coffee?”

He kept looking, searching for anything he’d missed, pointing out that he would take it too – each item, piece by piece – including my computers, my massage chair, and anything he could think of.

I watched him, he had the perfect poker face on, if I’d been in a hand with him and he was raising me all-in, I’m not sure I would’ve called even if I had the 2nd best hand.  He was so calm and relaxed as he continued his list.

I asked him why.

“Because I’m mean.”

His eyes had a slight twinkle but his expression never changed.

“And I’m done with you.”

That one made me laugh.  “You are?”

“Yes!”

“Why?”

“Because I am.”

He continued with his listings of things that would go with him to his dad’s house.

Now where would a five year old, Wii game playing, rabbit scouting, dirt playing boy, find the expression, “I’m done with you!”  Momparental must’ve used it in more than one conversation since he spends most of his time with her now that the split has happened.  The split?  It’s still a mess.  There’s supposedly some counseling involved – include Riot in that – but it’s not ironed out and dadparental may end up with a jail sentence due to momparental filing a charge against him (from my understanding, corroborated with a few other people, the charge is not true but that doesn’t mean jack shit).

Riot is a ton of fun, his biggest issue is the overuse of the word, “Grandma.”  And sadly, he doesn’t call me grandmom anymore.  *sniff* I could play $100-200 LH if I had $1 for everytime he says Grandma.  Love that boy.  He went to dad on Sunday a.m. and it’s been blissfully quiet since.
