A Vegas day

Tuesday was a Vegas day.  I had to go have a minor molar/acrylic build-up adjustment, pick the color of my final teeth, and get the overall as I wait through the next few weeks for the big day of all day dentistry…coming soon to a channel in my future.

I made it to the breast surgeon Dr.  for a follow up on yearly mammograms – see ya, come back in a 6 months.  As I was getting ready to enter the elevator on my way up to the office, a guy that I’ve dealt poker to for years – but not for years now – was exiting with a cane walker.  Our eyes didn’t meet and there were other people milling in and out so I didn’t bother to venture a hello.  What are the odds?

After the dentist and the doctor were over, I met Marie for our last lunch before her yearly trek back to Iowa.  *sniff*  Good bye Marie…damn it!

Off to the old digs to pick up Riot for a trip back home with me.  He’s been keeping me entertained and exceptionally busy the last few days.  I put him into a day care center out here for 2 hours because I had an appointment on Wed. and I have one on Friday for a few hours, he will go back to day care that day.  It’s nice having him established there because if something came up, I could take him for the day.

Hitting Pahrump, with Riot, from Vegas, we stopped in the local Super Walmart, a guy I’ve dealt poker to over the years was going out as I was coming in.  We were never on a speaking basis and I didn’t try to say hello to him either.  What are the odds?

After we left the day care center on Wed., we stopped by the Sears outlet which is out on Calvada Blvd, away from the main thoroughfare, to see if they had any TV converter boxes.  Yah, what little TV I get comes in on an antennae on the coach, and there’s one educational channel that Riot particularly enjoys watching – filled with cartoons and kids. There were three oldies in the store, two that worked there, one customer – make it four oldies counting me – and I asked the clerk if they had any, “Nope, all out, the truck comes in tomorrow that will have more on it.”

As I hit the exit door, so did the other customer.  I caught a side glimpse of him…naw…was it?  As we hit the outside heat, I asked, “Are you Irv?”

Lo and behold.  We chatted for a few moments.  I used to deal to him at The Mirage, daily, for years.  He said he never plays poker anymore and lives between – I think – Florida, Alaska, and here.  WTF are the odds?

I found the converter box at Walmart.  Riot and I escaped the heat of the late afternoon for a few hours in the coach and then putzed around between spending time in and out of the coach.  We saw a rabbit that Riot tried to run down but it got away.  What’s new there?  Today was a different story.  In the good neighbor’s yard, (it’s wire fenced) a rabbit was barely crawling, looked to have a broken back or badly injured leg that didn’t work and it was going into some twitching/death convulsions.  A crow came swooping down to attack it and it managed to kick out of the death roll to move on a few more yards and the crow flew off.  Not for long I speculate.  I told Riot we should go in the house and we did.  We have overly chewed on the fact that the rabbit is dying and how Riot wants to pick it up and carry it…this discussion will go off and on for weeks…maybe longer since he seems to hold on strongly to certain things.

I sent my neighbor an email to let her know and put out the ‘mercy killing’ thing.  I hate it, but it is part of the overall picture.  If left, the rabbit won’t make it another hour or so anyway.  I hate the suffering.

We are planning an evening on the property.  We have a fire pit, perhaps we will build a small fire and sit as the darkness begins to overtake the land.
