Bloggers

Starting the update, means pictures taking forever, but all it costs is my time, so here goes. I made it to the Blogger meet at the MGM for mixed games on Friday night.  I have to tell you before hand that I’ve spent the last month or so feeling pretty much like shit and it was amplified during the time I was in Vegas so while I enjoyed all the time I had with everyone, I admit to not being quite up to par. I went through the casino to the restrooms when I hit the MGM and spotted Falstaff and his sis Betty playing some ring-ding slot game.  We visited for a moment before I headed on…ultimate goal, the poker room.I was expecting Marie, my poker playing, running mate to join the bloggers for our mixed game ram and jam, and I was in touch with her by phone as I went to put our names on the list and find a seat in another game.  I found Iggy talking to someone in a game (who?  Hell if I know – I’m blank), we had the big hug, short visit that is customary in poker rooms when everyone’s in a game or looking for one.

I put mine and Marie’s name on the list for the Mixed Games and got a seat in a $4-8H game with nine other guys.  I didn’t last long as the list got called for the Mixed games.  I locked up a seat next to me for Marie and DrChako was on the other side of her seat.  Lots of fun.  I met Mike, he was in the 10s and I was 9s – Marie 8s.  Don’t think for one minute that I can remember names and blog names…I sometimes remember one or the other but seldom ever know both.  I mainly remember the long timers because we’ve been together for blog eternity and make it a point to seek each other out at blog meets.

Keep in mind that all the casinos have a shit fit if you take pictures in the room, I took some, the lighting is horrible in most, and I didn’t use a flash cuz that’s a surefire way to get security down on you. Some of these I did ‘auto correct’ on, hence they look a tad bit grainier and reddish.  And these were taken at MGM.

And Alan, the picture I got of you this year was so dark, I ditched it for the one taken in 06.

The players at the Mixed Game were all classics.  Falstaff, Alan, DrChako, Drizz, are the ones that I happen to know the most about of/type of thing.  Falstaff, Alan, and DrChako were on major chip stack destruct and it worked for Falstaff.  The other two held onto their chips and even built them up.  I went down the tubes with Falstaff – I won’t go into the Card Fairy tales of woe – I simply should have folded almost every hand.  I think I split three pots in the four hours I played the game.

Marie was late getting there and I was concerned they would give her seat away but no one said anything for about 45 minutes.  They did start two other mixed games.  And Gary, Marie’s life mate, got a seat in the 3rd one.  Marie got the stuffings beat out of her, finally going all-in with A-4-A-2 double suits in Omaha 8 and making -zip- she gave it up and went home before I did.  She must have really been fried because usually I will be the first to bag it and head out the door.

PokerPeaker got into our game but him and a few bloggers were on their way to see a H-E-A-V-VVV-Y Metal show at Green Valley Ranch, when he left the table a few others left with him.  Drizz put a lot of $$ on the table but played very little, as a matter of fact, he had to be interrupted from conversations with people sweating him to even get him to look at his hand during most of the game while I was there.  Not that it mattered much to my chip stack, it just slowed down the bleeding.

I did visit with PokerPeaker, F-Train, and a few others that came by to say ‘Hi!’  AlCantHang came over for a welcome hug and hello – NICE!  FlipChip and the Poker Prof stopped to say hello to…two of my favorites.  Kat got in our game just before I left too.  She’s a true treasure with a big smile and eyes that light up – I like that.

I found out from our own $mokkee a little bit ago that Maigrey won the blogger tournament the following day at the Venetian.  Yes, I was there and played in it.  Yes, I busted out.  No, I didn’t wait to the end to watch it.  Yes, I will have some pictures (what I have) up in the next post or so.  And our $mokkee was at the final table.  And so was our own PokerPeaker!  Good showing for the PokerWorks writing team guys.  And my news writing/tournament reporting/poker news search team of one/all-around major member of PokerWorks writing staff, Jennifer Newell, played the event too.

Great to meet you Drew!

More later – Gracie and Sweet Pablo get married – Venetian Blogger Tournament
