Watching the effect of the wind

as it whips across the desert.  From seemingly nowhere it springs into a tornado force with no rhyme or reason other than to move across the land as fast as possible.  I keep waiting for the rain to hit my section of dirt as I watch it come across the mountains hanging in dark, wispy curtains from the clouds above.  The wind hits again in a devastating blast that rocks the coach and birds struggle to remain airborne as it hurls them back and forth like an out of control yoyo at the end of a string.

It’s awesome!  But no rain. The sky is dark.  The wind eases and then cranks into another blast.  But still no rain.  A few splatter drops on the window and that’s it.  The thunder rolled out in a long, low rumble. But still no rain.

I keep waiting for the rain to hit because I want to race around on the crushed rock trail capped with patio tiles that I built recently.  I wanted to see how far the crushed rock would sink into the wet silt surface.  But it just isn’t happening.  Let’s hope I don’t witness a flash flood when it finally does happen.

The moon has been hidden behind the clouds tonight.  The wind has settled into a romp now and then but settles again into a pleasant breeze.

No adventures on the virtual felt today, I’ve not had the time or the thought to try to tangle with a deck of cards and the mental wanderings that attack me when I look at the same unplayable hands for hours.  Kee-rist!  I do wish I was drinking sometimes.  Naw…I didn’t quit because I had to, I quit because I figured if I was going to survive to a healthy old age, I was the one that would make it happen and giving up a few things like wine would perhaps give me the clarity to get up off my ass and move my feet.  Some days I move my feet, others I don’t.  When I was in multiple glasses of wine mode, I never got up…just hook up the IV baby.

But back to the cards.  They seemed to be less irritating when I was drinking.  DOH!

I miss Riot.  I talked to him tonight and he told me I had to come and get him.  I said I would.  I didn’t give him a date but when I spoke to his mom later she said he was convinced I was coming tomorrow.  Umnhhh.  Hopefully he really doesn’t put tomorrow into ‘when I get up in the morning’ since he still has to go to school.  An evening of the Hulk and Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii and Spiderman Friend or Foe on the computer with Riot just makes up for all the bad beats and dirty Card Fairy tricks.

Time for sleep…with the wind blowing through open windows.

  1. a little rain needed? be happy to share some. Our town was reported with 13″ for the weekend. we’ve enough roads flooded that the old line about ‘you can’t get there from here’ is correct.

the weather guys had been ‘wishing up’ some rain for a while as we were under the norm. ya gotta be careful what you wish for.
