The long and grinding week

Another week has slipped away into one of the slow grind categories. I’m dragging ass. I played on shift one of the four nights that I punched the Time Clock last week.

The only funny part of that playing experience was when I got a set of 10’s beat by 5-3 of clubs – funny in a sick way. I’d sat through a few of hours of no winning and no playable hands and the game really did suck. There was very little action and when the action took off, it was akin to a blowhole burst of activity and then back to nothing for another half hour or so. There were no happy spots or bright sides to the game and what made it even worse was that it was the only $4-8H game in the room. That in itself is quite unusual. There were lots of $2-5 NLH games to make up for the lack of a $4-8L game though. With no transfer list on my future, I resolved to sit and wait it out. We got a new player, we lost two players, we picked up two players, we lost another player, you know the drill.

One local/regular was in the 6s. He is NEVER happy. He plays $8-16 sometimes but mostly $4-8 and used to play $15-30. I don’t care to be at his table because he makes comments that are best left in the pocket by his ass…oh, wait…it might be his ass talking.

We got a new player in the 1s, I was in the 2s, and not much happened for about 20 minutes.

I picked up 10-10 and raised pre-flop. The 3s was open, the 4 and 5s folded, the 6s was the button and called my raise; so did the blinds and the 1s. The Flop brought 10-9-6 with two clubs. The 1s led the bet into me, I raised, and the 6s came along for the ride. The long and short of it, the turn brought a 4, the river brought a deuce, and the 1s bet. I called. OUCH! I knew that card beat me but I couldn’t dump my hand. The 6s called also. The 5-3 had made a straight.

The 6s jumped up like a scalded cat, grabbing his last $20 or so in chips, grouching that went something like, “You can tell there’s a tourist at the table. Playing a hand like that!” his voice filled with resentment as he prepared to run.

I have no idea what he had but he couldn’t beat the lowest straight possible so he didn’t ever have the best hand, except possibly pre-flop.

I almost fell out of my chair laughing when the 1s angrily defended himself with, “Go ahead and leave. Take your chips with you…*pause*…Oh, you can’t because I’m stacking them.”

I got picked up to deal for an hour and I was glad. It was either deal or clock out and head for home. I didn’t have the steam to spend another hour’s play in the player side.

During the week I dealt a session in Bobby’s Room to Jennifer Harman, Chip Reese, Gus Hansen, and Eli Elezra. They played $3,000-6,000 mixed and it has to be close to a year since I’ve dealt that game. I made it through the down without a glitch or a hitch. YIPPEE!

My sis, Vickie, and her man, Monte, rolled into town on Friday (long haul truck drivers). Normally they spend an afternoon/evening and leave in the wee hours of the morning as they continue their trip. But not this time. Their truck was having a few glitches that needed tending to and they were in town all weekend. Yup, very nice to see them. The only drag of the whole thing is that I turn into a day person when they are here and I can’t sleep at night. To make matters worse, I felt as if I was trying to come down with something all weekend…sniffles, funny feeling stomach every time I ate, and yank out all the small bits and pieces of sleep that would have been nice and…

HELP! I don’t feel so damn good. More later.
