I’ve never claimed to be a brainiac mathematically minded soul, yet I can’t help but wonder what the odds are that I would happen to be in a WalMart at Rainbow and Spring Mountain (I end up there about once a year since I live on the other side of town) and first run in to Pam Jones, then as I passed the return area I spotted Abe, a poker playing gent that used to play only $5-10 7 Card Stud at the Mirage and eventually upgraded??? to Omaha, and in electronics/computers at the back of the store spy and chat with Suzie Lederer’s niece (she apparently works there), and after I cashed out and was heading out of the store I spotted Lucky (dealer at Bellagio) at the cashier. Four poker personalities that all arrived at the store – separately – and I cross their path at a given hour of the day out of the zillions of people that live in Las Vegas. Way weird man!
My sis was in town for a brief span of time and we met the family up at the Sun Coast Casino Buffet. After the kids headed out, we opted to play Keno machines and gab for a bit. Hola! I spotted another poker player through the machine wall that I hadn’t seen in years, used to deal to him all the time at the Mirage and he played at Bellagio off and on the first few years we were open. Amazing, even getting out and moving around town I’m crossing paths with poker people.
This weekend starts the biggest poker jam in the world – a gigantic influx of poker locusts come in from all over the world to feed on the green felt. It should be interesting. I will be there off and on but mainly off. Jennifer Newell and Aaron Hendrix (PokerWorks writers) will be covering the media end of it for PokerWorks…for that I am eternally grateful because I just can’t lock in to the 24/7 reporting factor. It’s been described as being in a cave for six weeks – shudder at the thought. Poker in your face, poker on your plate, poker up your nose, breathe in poker, exhale poker, don’t try to sleep because poker’s happening. Yummy! I do love it! I just don’t want it to that extreme.
It’s been an exceptionally busy week and it’s not slowing down much. Tomorrow is another ‘get thine self to the dentist’ for more punishment. Woo hoo! I’ve gone once a week for the last who can remember, twice in a week several times. I hope to soon go to temporary crowns and lose the brackets. No matter how much I try to live with them, they make me craziac. At least the extracted tooth is past the painful stage – although it looks really gimpy, intimidating and weird the way it sets now. If I didn’t have to wax up the brackets to keep from shredding my upper lip, I’d be embarrassed to go out in public the way my teeth look. UGH!
Diesel took another dramatic hike, it’s $4.75 a gallon. I can hardly wait to see how much it will be when I head north for the family reunion in August. Boo HISS! Who’s got the goods on bio-diesel or gogreen or something worth reading? Ship it to me.
