That’s an old saying in poker but it rings true to most events that happen in our daily lives. Let’s talk the medical marijuana revolution that’s going on in Nevada as the rules are changing and grow/dispensaries are going to become legal for in state and out of state buyers that have a medical marijuana card.
I may not be completely up-to-date on everything that’s going on with the legal side of it but right now, the situation, from what I know of it, is flawed and there are going to be a lot of lawsuits against the city and possibly the state IMHO.
I have a medical marijuana license – have had for a number of years. I consume that medicinal herb in tea. The state is changing the law on growing, it used to be that those approved could grow up to X amount of plants, legally, and carry X amount of pot with them in the state of Nevada without running into issues. Of course you can’t drive under the influence, it’s just like a drunk driving charge. I have been diagnosed with a variety of medical issues that MM helps calm, including pain. It also allows me to sleep which I began having problems with a number of years ago.
That brings me to my latest visit with my surgeon a few days ago. He practices at the Women’s Cancer Clinic in Las Vegas, his field is urology. He had given me a prescription drug called Oxybutin that calms the bladder, is supposed to take away that nighttime urge to run to the toileten all night long, etc. It’s expensive even with my SD health care prescription provider. It also causes dizziness, night sweats and a variety of other issues. Yah, I was running super bad with dizzy and also this last week had night sweats that were unreal – that is a first for me, to wake up with my night clothing drenched every hour or so, to the point of sleeping with a towel under me and one over my pillow.
I told him I was a MM patient and wanted to know if I could stop using the Oxybutin because MM does a better job of calming everything in my lower abdominal area, plus I sleep better.
He asked if I had my license. I said yes. He went on to tell me that his company had applied for a grow/distributors license. This part is insane, they were approved to grow but not distribute “because they don’t contribute enough to society to merit one.” Right, they have chemotherapy patients, etc, but Phil Ivey, the golden god of poker was approved for a city pot permit, as was the casino chain Terrible Herbst. Both of those are really helping society.
Being approved for a pot permit in Vegas is only one of the steps, the applicants then have to apply to the state, then if they are approved, they go back to more shuffling and applications with the city. But so far it looks like those with the gold are making the rules. More news here.
I have a friend that is involved in an application through a corporation they are part of. Same kind of BS. The word is that there are going to be a lot of lawsuits filed against the city over this. Yes, it is big business, and yes, big business likes to get in and shove others into their way of thinking but I’m in shock that a Cancer Center would be denied when the essence of legalizing the drug is to help those that have medical problems.
I have opted in with my Dr. to be part of any surveys or answer any questions that I can help with. I believe MM has helped me immensely…nah…I don’t sit around stoned all day. And don’t get your hopes up, I don’t have plants and bags on premises, so don’t consider looking me up, you’ll be disappointed, besides, my dog loves fresh meat.
