about this time, I was in super-coma mode.  Throwing up, in pain, but knowing that if I had just jumped off the gurney when they rolled me into surgery about three hours before, I wouldn’t be going through any of that.  Before we leave the subject of surgery, how do doctors keep their fingers nimble and on target when the surgical room is so cold you can hang meat in there?

I had the shiver-shakes before the door opened to surgery…freezing my ass off…and even though an attendant put heated blankets on me, even putting one around my head and shoulders (it did help BTW), I couldn’t wait to ‘sleep’ the whole thing off and get started on the next phase.

That was then, this is now.  I went to the surgeon yesterday so he could check out his handiwork and tell me if there was a problem with the one dermabond covered surgical hole that looks like it has a life of its own. The final word was to leave it alone, it would all work out.  The good news is that instead of going back (two weeks for a check-up), my attendance and prognosis yesterday was good enough to get me excused from coming back – unless there’s a major problem of course.  Truthfully, I feel like shit when I start waking up in the a.m. – almost like morning sickness but not.  I guess I expect too much since it is only a week today.

I’ve been crawling out of the fog that seems to live in one’s head after a traumatic event.  The pain pills make me sick unless I eat before taking them…the thought of food makes me sick at times too…oh drear. The motion sickness thing is planted squarely in my face and a bit of allergies (the wind is ready to send me to Kansas today) has put a big screw in the mind game that my brain is playing on me.  Goal for the day — do not puke. At least if I do, it won’t hurt as frigging bad as it did the day I had the surgery…looking at that as a plus really.

I almost can’t stop laughing at how hard Daniel Negreanu has milked the ‘The First Card off the Deck” rule.  Seriously?  Yah, I listened to his entire latest rant of which almost the whole 25 minutes is wrapped around his opinion on the rule. Even when he says he’s done with it, he continues with it.

IMHO the whole thing comes across poorly in the rant. Perhaps it’s too many years of dealing high limit and listening to players that always believe their POV is the correct one. If it’s not that big of a deal (the rule) then why is it receiving so much attention? Yes, Negreanu is famous, and a spokesperson for poker, but this feels to me like he does take it personally that the rule was made without his input – and the reason it doesn’t have his input isn’t his fault.

Having fun at poker is one thing, knowing where to draw the line so the game is fair for all is another. And then enforcing the fairness of the game is another. After holding down seat 11 for too many years, most of my experience with player’s opinions on rules and what works best in different limits, is always biased by how it affects that player at that time.

As the rant states, the rule isn’t going to apply at the WSOP…so…dealers, be sure to slow down the deal when one of your favorites is 80 feet away, jumping over the light fixtures, and tripping through the chairs to make it to their seat before the last card is dealt.  And if they’re carrying their chair with them…stop and order a cocktail before you let that last ticket slide off the deck!  Just saying…

I think this weekend will find me playing a hand or two at the WSOP.com.  I’ll let you know.
