PokerWorks issues & personal kinda stuff

Due to technical issues that are out of my control, and programmers that have the weekend off, no new content is going to hit the pages of PokerWorks until possibly sometime on Monday.  That sucks.

So let me babble on about other things.

The heat is on here in the desert.  Scout and I have hiked the last three nights – just about the time the sun is going down – and I hope we make it tonight too.  It’s still damned ‘muggy’ feeling from all the clouds that managed to hide the sun and act like they were going to give up moisture but very little of it hit the ground.  Dry heat, schmie heat…it’s creepy and uncomfortably hot out.  Even last night on my last trip out about 1 a.m., it was still hot.  It’s been an unusual year in terms of weather.  I’ll leave it at that.

I didn’t post a few high spots of the year – like my sis throwing her own birthday party back in mid-April. It was a huge success and then she had a pig roast party on June 23rd.  The pig roast was part of a deal that was cooked up by her, Monte, and a couple of friends.  That was an even bigger success with somewhere around 60 people showing up.  I think some of those that showed heard about it and just came over…not because they were friends or were invited, but the idea of a roasted pig seemed a novel idea – and they rolled in.

Sis built a roasting pit, dug  out the ground, laid in a frame work to put the victim pig on, and built a short block wall around the pit.  Of course her man helped with some of it but she’s the main rock/paver layer of the family. The pig, laid out in proper fashion after it was cooked.

Notables in attendance:

Sarah (my great niece was born three and a half months early, weighing in at one pound nine ounces (if memory serves), she is 12 now and a beauty to boot.  Of course one of my frequent house guests, Riot, is 9 now.

Robert (Sarah and Robert are brother and sister and live in North Carolina, my sis is their grams and they spent a month with her, heading for Montana to visit their other grams on 7.4) and Vickie.

My two youngest grandkids, Kate and Breck – Kate is almost six and Breck is almost 4. Riot, Kate, and Breck are brother and sister – my son is the dad of all three.

My son Darian – the woman in the picture is the wife of the guy that arranged the pig roasting affair with Vickie and Monte.

My great nephew Justin that lives in Moses Lake.  He happened to be in Vegas for a Magic, the Gathering competition during the weekend of the pig roast.  He busted out early or would’ve missed the event.

Susan, mother of Kate and Breck and soon to be mother of number three – this is her 5th child. (drinking soda BTW)

My friend Steve on the left.  We met through these pages about six – seven years ago.  Married to the beautiful Nancy that is in Texas right now.

Lots of other pictures but most of them I do not know other than an association through Vickie and Monte.  They like to go out and mingle, hence friend accumulation.

I have pictures of the cooked pig but they aren’t appetizing at all.  As a matter of fact, looking at it laying out on the slab, waiting to be carved, kind of did it for me.  I didn’t have any.  I’m like that. But the fare was great and I spent some time in the pool with the grandkids…all in all, it was a great time.

On the poker front, I tried to log into Ultimate Poker a few hours ago and it couldn’t pin point my location to Nevada. So…I left.  I’ll try later tonight or tomorrow.

On that note, I’m outta here.  But there’s talk of a calf roast in October.  Wheeeeeeee!

  1. I’m fascinated with the idea of a Pig Roast in June and a steer roast in Oct in the desert. Usually, from a boyhood in Virginia, it is the other way around.

  2. TM, Seriously…do they have an ‘animal roasting order’ in Virginia? Not even sure how the pig roast idea came about…it was hatched in one of their drinking festivals methinks. Once the crowd was in, milling, eating, drinking, the idea of a calf roast was brought up. Who knows if it will happen. But all of her events are a lot of fun. The best part is I only have to open the gate and walk over and can head for home anytime I need a break. 🙂

  3. It had to do with refridgeration and breeding seasons. Pigs in cold weather (cooler), fall calves (generally weaker).
