Settling in at the WSOP for the 50K Champion’s Tournament that will start in about half an hour. I have no idea how much energy I will have or for how long. The last few days have been extremely hectic. Settling my place in Pahrump for my part-time absence took a little longer than I would have liked on Tuesday, and the drive into Vegas, stopping for a visit with two of my boys, picking up Super Mario Galaxy II that I had reserved at Game Stop, some food from a sandwich shop, a teensy bit of food shopping, collecting Marie from The Venetian Omaha 8 or Better game she was in, hitting her digs and getting my extended security pass, taking her back to the Venetian, settling into her spare digs and setting up my PC, rolling out my clothes, and other miscellany left me with the energy of road kill.
Somewhere that evening, Gary and Marie came home from the poker game and I went to their place. I had brought them a bottle of Chocovine–Chocolate Wine, the ultimate desert with a kick. Freeze it – it gets slushy, and it’s wa-a-a-a-a-y wonderful. I had half a glass, they had more…that works for me since I’d not had any of it from the day I drank a whole bottle and thought I was going to die from it.
The following day was a busy day too. I had lunch with Gary and Marie and a few of their family members, two of whom were temporarily in town. Before that I took the Steed over on Boulder Highway to a hand wash place that is mainly Mexican manned and let them have at it. They do an incredible job. It looks brand new. So that was Wednesday, (still trying to get some house settling things done), after we had lunch, Marie and I parked ourselves in a $4-8 LH game. Actually we got on the list and she was on the omaha list too. Amazingly, the brush screwed that up and then acted like they knew what they were doing all along. Yeah, right. We played for about an hour, I was so tired I thought if someone bumped my chair I would slide off of it and lay on the floor for a week or so. I gave up and she was going to ride home with me but they called her name for omaha and she couldn’t resist since they were going home to Iowa the following day. They were also going to the Comedy Stop that night and wondered if I wanted to go…OMG! NO! I had work to do and was planning a very early hike with The G, then taking Gary and Marie to the airport, then hitting the Rio for Media Passes and lunch with two PokerWorks’ writers, Jennifer Newell and Billy Monroe.
As it’s supposed to happen, Wed. night, I couldn’t sleep without waking every few hours. It’s always that way anymore, if I know I have to get up early, I finally fall into a decent sleep about two hours before I have to get up. Totally wonderful!!! The hike was great, the trip to the airport was smooth, so was the media pass pick-up and lunch, but…by the time I hit my home away from home, I was almost dead. I did a little work on PokerWorks and went to sleep – thinking I would sleep for an hour and then make it to the PokerNews party that started at 6. I never made it. I got up, did a grumbling crawl around to different parts of the house to feed myself and try to clear the dead grunge from my brain, it wasn’t working. I gave up and went to sleep for the night around 10 p.m., woke up at 5 for about an hour as I cried to the programmer about the main page and the WSOP articles not loading as they should, and went back to sleep about 7ish until 8:30. WOW! It’s amazing how good sleep really is.
At the WSOP – Rio – by 4 p.m.ish. The Amazon room has about 375 tables in it – this is my view from the media seat I’ve chosen. As far as I can tell, there are two media spots in this room.
I saw Nolan Dalla yesterday as he swept through the hallway with his locks flowing, today he’s dressed as always at WSOP time, in a suit, but the pony tail is new. It isn’t long but he says next year it will be. He’s cute!
The 50K is well underway, Table 333 is a real nightmare – totally stacked. Phil Ivey, David Benyamine, Scotty Nguyen, Freddie Deeb, Chau Giang, just to name a few.
I’m off to meet my son and his gal for dinner. Be back later.
Something tells me that STARTING the WSOP totally exhausted is not the best idea. Sounds like you need to get into “boss” mode and make Jennifer and Billy do the work while you get some rest. Stay healthy, friend.
