Today appears gloomy

looking out from my windows, the sky is dark and overcast, but my thoughts are filled with happy, happy, and a zest for life.  I went for a long desert walk yesterday at midday, it was cool but the sun was out intermittently.  Today I’m supposed to walk with Amy, whether she ventures out or not, I will still go.  Desert walking is a gentle, cleansing bath for the soul. Perhaps that’s part of the ‘happy, happy’ that’s running around inside me.

There’s huff and puff going on in Clark County concerning land that is set aside for a shooting park.  Of course the anti-gun crusaders are arguing against it.  I sent this email out to friends and family yesterday:

Whether you live in NV or not, please take a moment and send a short letter to the address listed at the bottom of the letter in this link:
http://www.blm.gov/pgdata/etc/medialib/blm/nv/field_offices/las_vegas_field_office/clark__county_shooting/interested_party_letter.Par.95830.File.dat/Interested%20Party%20Ltr%2012-16-09.pdf you may need to copy and paste it into your browser url to have the link load correctly.

This shooting park was initiated for the residents of Clark County and has been attacked by anti-gun residents.  It’s not a fly by night deal, it’s a huge parcel of land with government funding behind it.  You can find the information here: http://www.blm.gov/nv/st/en/fo/lvfo/blm_information/nepa/clark_county_shooting/clark_county_shooting.html

Originally, over 1000 of us sent a short note expressing our interest in the park.  Other issues came up and now we need to unite to keep our freedom, and be able to have a safe place to go shooting.

Please take a moment and send a snail mail letter today to: Attn:  Mr. Robert B. Ross, Jr., Bureau of Land Management, Las Vegas Field Manager, 4701 N. Torrey Pines Dr. Las Vegas Nevada 89130.

Simply put, your later can state something as easy as:  ‘I am a recreational shooter and want to be able to exercise the privilege of owning and plinking at a safe, protected area.  Please make the Clark County Shooting Area happen.’

Please sign with your email address and name, address if you wish to convey it.

thanks,
Linda

MOI would sincerely appreciate it if you – no matter where you live – would send a short note in favor of the park.  It could possibly keep me from seeing a hillside in the desert covered with broken bits of a thousand glass bottles that met their demise through someone’s target practice.  I believe in guns, I’m a plinker, when I hit the family reunion that’s one thing I really look forward to is plinking with my bro.  One would think that with 2,800 acres set aside for the park, that the ‘antis’ could figure out there’s more to it than just people running and gunning. Alas, another form of control like the UIGEA – “I don’t do it, I don’t want you to do it.”  While some of the letters received may have valid concerns and more studies may need to be done (doncha think this is a government trap at times?  Study it until our current population dies and the next ones have no idea why they’re studying it?) the property was specifically allotted for a particular reason and millions set aside for the project.  Something, somewhere should be resolved to allow it to happen without gun control freaks coming into the picture.

I played the PokerStars World Record Breaker $1 tourney – me being one of 149,196 players.  I made it to 9359th place and scooped a massive $4.50 reward.  Ahhhhh…the joys of being a record breaker.  On the poker front, I’m back in the rut, waiting through the dead zone, pick up a hand, I’m beat.  Oh well, there’s always tomorrow.

I recently received news that Jeff Pierce has passed.  I have no feeling about it one way or the other.  I dealt to him since the opening of the Mirage when he played $4-8 Omaha 8 or better.  He was never a person that I wanted to spend any time with, although I do have a few good stories tucked away about incidents with him.  Most of the dealers will never miss him as he was mostly a complete stiff.  He moved up in limits over the years and always managed to complain (the last few that I dealt to him anyway) that he couldn’t win and hadn’t for x number of years…not to me…to everyone in general at the table.  RIP Jeff.

Tomorrow afternoon will find me and the trucking duo heading into the bright lights of the big city.  Our plan?  We think to hit Gary and Marie’s place around 6ish, have a glass of wine, then head for the old digs to pick up my son, and meet up with Carole Long (Gordon Long’s life mate) and head for Howard and Suzie Lederer’s New Year’s Eve party at their new digs.  It should be the hoot of all hoots and I’m looking forward to it – with camera in hand.

  1. Can i sign you up in advance to do my eulogy? “Never had much use for clearspine, he wasn’t much of a writer, and he always complained about me sucking out on the river on him.” That oughta about do it. Love your no-holds-barred honesty, and will remember to try and stay on your good side.

  2. kinda funny, in a way, that no-holds-barred honesty has a tendency to make one think I have a bad side. I really don’t. I just don’t mince words and if I’ve never had a feeling of like or dislike about someone, why should I say I’m sorry they’re gone or they were a great person or some other gibberish that mankind feels they have to lay on the departed?

The brutal truth of it is that if you followed this particular gent around the poker world, you may have found somethings about him you admired or liked, but honestly, most did not. Some even tried to get him barred from the Mirage poker room in the early days and I remember him asking me if I would stick up for him if management asked me how he was at the table. I told him I would tell the truth – that truth was that he really never bothered anyone and didn’t create disturbances and he filled a seat, which is a very good thing for a poker room.

I never had problems with him. He liked my dealing and that netted me about $3.50 a year, which is more than a lot of others got from at $40-80 game with a half kill.

It’s kinda sad when you think that a person departs this life, leaving behind a limit poker game in a poker room…that’s their claim to fame, their footprint in life, and that’s what I feel he left behind.

Let me work on yours, I’ll see if I can find something ultra charming you’ll love to hate. 🙂

  3. About the World Record Tourny. The guy who finished second place in it for 30k proceeded to lose ALL of it playing 400/800 limit all within about 24 hours of his score. I’ll leave the poor chaps name out of this comment, but the news is fairly easy to find in forum world.

  4. Have a happy and safe New Year bringin’ in!
I’ll actually miss that Jeff character–I think I was one of a handful of people who enjoyed his presence.
He was clearly and consistently an ass towards most dealers, which is never accepted or appropriate and I certainly did not like that about him—believe me when I tell you that I called him out EVERY time he disrespected or mumbled nastiness (yes, of course it was a full time endeavor). It was not only fun for me, but I like to think it gave him pause (however brief) to realize the absurdity of what he was doing. He was actually very sharp and had a fantastic sense of humor. Thanks for sharing the news and I look forward to talking to you soon. luv always, monkey w/out a basket
