Feeling pretty damned chipper about myself right now, almost patting me on the back. My cacti bed is almost done. I need a coupla bags of decorative stone to fill in some spots and lay around in a few odd places but for all intents and purposes, I finished it up today.
It’s on a built up base of #2 Gravel and pretty close to level – it took me three attempts of stacking and unstacking windsor stone to get it close – yes, I do have several levels. I had a few unique bursts of ingenuity when creating the different levels in it – and it worked. I used weed mat to line the walls with to keep the windsor stone from bleeding dirt and rocks; that’s one of the things that will get tucked away and hidden when I use the decorative stone.
I had a clay chimenea at the old digs that I loved to sit by and toast in its rosy glow as I toasted to the world when I was a winehead. One day the clay gave up and split out at the bottom; I salvaged parts of it and used it in the yard at the old digs to mark the drip watering outlets in the river rock. Since I love broken things (that’s why I like me), I brought the pieces to “P” and they now live in the cacti bed. The 2nd picture is the strangely exotic member of the prickly pear family. It’s quite heavy and big and the wind could possibly wreak havoc with it…gee…what a perfect place for the broken remains of the belly of the chimenea. And a piece of the cacti broke off at the base while transplanting so it rests next to the main piece. If all goes well, I will have two of those next summer. And yes, I do know my cacti. It will grow. I’m the original green thumb tartlet of the world. And photo 3 is the beginning of the project.
Tomorrow I have a Dr. appointment to check my lab results and talk about a few things. That means if there is no wind on Thursday, after I hit the desert trail in the early a.m. with Amy, I will be laying out the coach skirting and tackling that project. It will be an all day thing, possibly easing into Friday too by the time I stake the bottom down. Not looking forward to that little jewel of a project – at all. Doing it alone makes it even worse. But since I’m super human and really can catch bullets with my teeth, I’ll git-er done.
While I was in Vegas last week to pick up the Riot child, I went to Walmart by Sunset Station. These were waiting for a handout. I think they need a sign – Will Wait For Food! They were all over the lot and are quite commonly seen in all lots where food is available. You have to hand it to them, they too stand in the shade.
Time to complete a coupla work related projects. Laters!
