The heat cools down

It’s starting to feel like a typical desert fall…I’m freezing my tush off by about 11 p.m. if the windows are open.  Yes, I’m a desert adapted used to live in the cold woods in Idaho and Montana.  Once you acclimate to the temperature changes, you’re freezing when it hits 60…no shit!

DSC07721.JPGLots of things going on.  There’s a Big Rig sitting in our driveway.  Damn good thing it’s a big, long driveway.  The semi was full of the truck driving duo’s goods, including Vickie’s car – they drove it in last.  If they wanted to save the trip into Vegas to a yard ramp/unloading dock, we had to find one in Pahrump…that we did thanks to Jamie, the all around contractor/repair guy that’s done some work for us on the house and property.

Monday a.m. I awoke to the sound of the truck’s APU running.  They were already unloading and had stopped at the unloading dock and drove her car out of the truck.

It was a day.

The unloading went well.  No one died or was injured.  Riot was here and got to check out the inside of a ‘big rig’.  When Monte returned with him from the truck, Monte said, “There’s no dial or knob left untouched.”

Makes perfect sense to me. I’ve seen Riot’s act before.  The Tasmanian Devil and the Road Runner combined couldn’t hold a candle to the speed with which that boy can go through things.

Vickie and Monte should be here for around a week.  Things will definitely start to settle soon and perhaps we’ll have time for an evening of BBQ and reminiscing, if not, there’ll be another time.  The new digs are starting to come together and it’s very nice.  I do love the property.  YIPPEE!!!  And I have a partner to help me pay for it.  Another YIPPPPPEEEE!  That’s a luxury to me.  I’m used to doing everything myself and now I have a partner that I know I can trust – and I do.

Back to my last post. I almost missed the ceremony.  I have no idea why I thought it was at 6:30, the same time as the dinner the night before.  I arrived, at what I thought was early, but there were a lot of cars there already and I thought Gee, I guess I’m not going to be out of line by showing up early.  Kee-rist!  I went in, just in time to watch Amy as Greg watched her say her vows to him.  It was quite emotional – and they both were.  They have promised me they will send me/or show me the vows that they wrote themselves…I bet I can muster up tears and sniffles just reading it.  I love to cry sometimes.

I really had a fantastic time.  I was thanked by Greg’s father for being a mentor to his boys when they came to Vegas and helping them on the road to becoming dealers.  Greg and Chad’s mom and step dad both thanked me.  Amy’s mom thanked me.  Holy Andy Mackerel…these people know how to make you feel great about yourself.  It was a very refreshing, humbling experience.

There was only one mishap as far as I know, it was me.  The place/house had all kinds of step up/step down and they weren’t marked.  One of the three entries to the informal dining room was from a small entry area that led to a bathroom and that entry also led to the kitchen and a family/living room.  I had gone to the bar – it was at the main entry to the house with a game room – to get a cup of fresh coffee and came back through the family/living room area and through the small entry area to the informal dining room and completely missed the frigging step which catapulted me towards the dining room table, with a full cup of hot coffee in one hand, trying to catch my balance as I caught one end of the dining room table with my free hand, managing to keep the coffee cup upright and only spill about 1/4 of it across the end of the table, my blouse, and the floor and hang onto the cup.  Is this something amazing?  Damn right!  First I didn’t fall down.  Second, I didn’t lose the cup in an explosion to save myself from falling.  Third, I didn’t spill or splash any coffee or release the cup on this:

Yeah Baby!  Their wedding cake.  It was a masterpiece and the picture doesn’t do it justice.  In reflection, I believe if I’d shot the cup into the side of the cake, I would have quietly went to gather my handbag and camera and silently left the premises…probably not but it sure would be an option.

Since I managed to not destroy anything, I left after the cake cutting – to pick up Riot and take him to the new digs for a few days, which brings me back to the big truck parked in the driveway.

Later…
