with staying current on Tango? Let me count the ways: #1 Just sit down and pen. #2 Just sit down and pen. #3 Just sit down and pen…the list goes on forever.
It’s been a crazy week:
1) Dental appointment – things are coming along nicely there according to my dentist, braces for another month, then two temporary crowns for a few months, then permanent crowns, then a retainer for night time sleep to keep me from grinding my teeth off at the nub thinking about the insanities of getting beat in poker…hell yes…don’t you do the same thing?
2) Lunch with Aaron and Jennifer on Monday to visit about WSOP reporting and schedules.
3) Appointment with insurance agent on Tuesday to cover all aspects of my insurance package.
4) Meeting with real estate agent to exchange papers. Phone calls with sis trying to figure out a way for her stop and sign papers in front of a notary instead of trying to find a spot she would be going through and fedex paperwork to her. As it turned out she landed in Vegas on Wednesday afternoon and her and beau Monte got a room at Sam’s Town for two days…some weirdo schmeirdo thing in their schedule (this just doesn’t happen). So Wednesday we spent some time running paperwork for signatures and I visited ATT to see about a business package, (what a frigging joke that is). Everything thing you want to accomplish takes 40 phone calls and 90 trips. And diesel topped out yesterday at $4.89 a gallon but today it could well be over $5.
5) A few weeks ago I had been in to see my favorite Dr. for an annual mammography breast check-up. If you catch this post it will give you some background on the photo. During this check up, I gave Dr. Gardner a great photo of Clonie that she had signed personally to him – it was framed/matted and really came across well. Of course he had to find out the history of the photo and how I got it and I explained how gracious Clonie was to send it to me – and Katie’s interaction in making it happen. Dr. Gardner’s nurse, Nancy, was in the room and she’s been around for most of the time that I remember being a patient of Dr. Gardner’s. That’s been close to 13 years. So we talked poker. We talked poker super stars, and Dr. Gardner mused that he wondered how his wife would take the photo.*laughter*
I told him to screw it to the wall because it might be worth something on eBay. He said it was going in his personal office. During our conversations about the mammography and the fact that he had done a lumpectomy on me about 9 years ago, and some test back in the beginning showed atypical cells, he looked at me with a serious face (perhaps he was practicing the poker straight faced thingey) and said, “You gave me a gift, now I’m going to give you one. Only mine’s not as comfortable.”
UMNHHH! He had Nancy set up an appointment for another test that he did free for me. That happened on Friday. He’s right. It wasn’t comfortable at all. As a matter of fact it hurt but peace of mind is a good thing and all’s well. Nancy is completely bald. She’s undergoing chemo and has been for some time now. She’s a wonderful inspiration with her upbeat attitude and ongoing smile and that wonderful inspiration thought isn’t about cancer, it’s nice to see someone that is upbeat and not acting like you’re a pain in the ass for forcing them to do their job.
6) Then more ATT – standing at a counter talking to a rep for over an hour as she made more than one phone call trying to help me out. ATT should be thankful for people like Betty – their rep – I sure as hell am because you don’t run into any semblance of customer service very damned often.
7) And a family meal at the Sun Coast – where I got to hang out with my buddy Riot. He loved the ice cream cone part and we were greatly entertained by his ice cream antics.
Sometime late on Friday evening, I felt as if life was starting to slow down for the week. Except that the WSOP started and I haven’t been over there yet. But Saturday was another busy day. Miss Katie Rae came to see me in the afternoon and entertain me with her great smile and charming personality. Her mother has her so spoiled though that she starts to huff at the idea you would set her down. I can’t help but laugh over how quickly babies pick up everything, like if you put her away from you, holding her out with your hands as if to set her down, she pulls her feet up underneath her…and she’s got a leg and arm lock on you when you pick her up. Good thing she doesn’t live with granny, she’d have to be little Miss Huff and Puff for a few days until she got over the ‘hold me’ thing. The good news is that her attention span is so short that 3 seconds after she’s down and sees a toy or something colorful to crawl to, she’s over it. And isn’t she a cutie, showing off those 2 bottom teeth:
Saturday evening was a night of cards at Jeff’s place out in Henderson. It’s an annual affair, this being the 4th year of the World Poker Championship, and I’ve been there each year and wouldn’t miss it unless I was out of town. Jeff is a fantastic host – his tournament moderation is a little shakey at times but it’s his show so who really cares? Certainly not me. It was a ton of fun. I had one great laugh when one of the guys that was there last year – and this year – and we ended up at the same table together both times – and we have a slight personality discord where we both rankle at each other, had a bit of a difference. At least he doesn’t opt to take me outside and kick me around… One of the people at the party is dealing the WSOP and she was at my table too and as Joe did his pushy little routine of control at everyone, the subject of the first event at the WSOP came up. We jabbered about it for a few minutes and the WSOP dealer got high carded out to another table. Someone said the first event was PLO. I disagreed and told them it was PLH. Joe was adamant that it was PLO.
I started laughing with, “I put up articles on PokerWorks and the writer of the article thought it was PLH.”
Joe insisted that I was wrong. I pulled up PokerWorks on my iPhone and handed it to him. With a straight face, he told me that he had friends that were dealers and players that were there and he would be glad to call them and verify that it was PLO. I asked him if he didn’t believe the WSOP dealer that just left our game because they had verified that the tournament was PLH too. He was dead serious…I had just flat made a mistake.
As I went to make my goodnight rounds about midnight, he was sitting talking to two of my friends. I told them goodnight and then threw in, “I still have about two hours of work to do on the site that doesn’t know that PLO was the first event.” *laughing my ass off*
He apologized to me and said he didn’t know. Gee…ok! It was more funny than anything else. Sometimes if you don’t know, you shouldn’t try to make other people eat your lack of knowledge. No offense Joe. Joe is funny – and he should be, he’s a comedian and performs here in Vegas. Some of us may make his show on Thursday night.
And of course I’ve been playing poker in the Chasing Chris Ferguson project. I will have a report there tomorrow. It’s been a real frustrating ride but my bankroll is at $500 and change – from starting at -0- on PokerStars. See…if I can do it, you can too.
