HELLO-O-O-O!!! The whole world has cell phones with cameras – so what is all the hype about someone carrying a camera into a poker room or casino? And if someone else asks me, “What’s the camera for?” I may just fall on the floor laughing. Of course it’s to take pictures with dumb butt…what did you think it was for, a boat anchor? And, “What are you taking pictures of?” which isn’t quite as bad…but the standard answer from me is, “Anything that suits my fancy.”
Saturday, the 11th, found me up and running fairly early. I had projects galore and if I was going to attempt to do half of them, I was going to have to rush. At 1 PM I found out I didn’t have to deliver a laptop, I’d set up for someone, until the following day. I hoofed over to Nevada Palace for a bite to eat in their ultra stream lined, modern, totally deluxe coffee shop. NOT! The entire casino would almost fit in Bellagio’s Poker Room and Sport’s Book.
The casino has its own personality and local traffic. And believe me when I tell you the average age at that time of day was my age + 10. Kee-rist! It was like having lunch in Palm Springs. I have nothing against older people, I’m getting there, but I like a mix…otherwise it feels like I stepped into another world that I’m definitely not ready to enter. The upside is that I don’t think I will ever be ready to enter that world…the kid in me is still blowing bubbles.
But that aside, I’d been in the casino recently with Wayne when we were on a Keno machine playing trip and we found the poker room. It holds three tables and several casino employees have informed me that there is always a game in the day time. I figured to look for that game before I looked for food. Yes…I was packing! The camera strap was over my shoulder and the camera fit up against my side like a handbag – plus I was wearing a ‘street person’ appearing lined, blue flannel shirt with paint splatter on it.
I waltzed back to the poker room, a small hidden space tucked quietly away from the rest of the world and the casino, pulled out my camera and snapped a few pictures…using the flash of course. I snapped about five pictures, put the lens cover back on, turned off the camera, and heard some big, “Security – section blah, blah, blah!” and as I hit the slot machines that help hide the poker room, three security guards were headed my way. These kids were pretty good sized and going somewhere with a vengeance. I knew they were looking for me. They didn’t know they were looking for me. One of them was straggling a bit and I stopped him and asked if they ever had a poker game. He kept looking over my shoulder at the other two that were ahead of him, and replied that they did.
I queried further, “When?”
He said he didn’t know but he knew they had poker. He went after the other two. I hit the end of the slot row, turned and looked over my shoulder to the right, and could see them staring around the poker room area. I went on my way to the coffee shop. I had a leisurely breakfast where an Asian woman that had been staring at a menu, came up and almost put her finger into my steak as she pointed at my food and wanted to know what it was and where I found it on the menu. D-A-Y-A-M! Don’t touch the food!

Their podium/sign in area and BTW, they do have a dealer’s schedule on the wall with names on it. Maybe that’s just in case?
And last of all, their tournament schedule…and I’m not poking fun at any of this. I’m a big fan of poker and I truly want to start searching out any and all rooms and posting about them, whether I play there or not.
