My Monday found me going up to high limit the 2nd hour of my night. The 1st game I dealt ‘on top’, (high limit is in a raised section), was $400-$800 mixed games, heads up with Curtis Bibb and Jennifer Harman. The football game was in progress and coming down to the wire…screaming, yelling, cheering…”Oh my God, I had the game won, then they made a touchdown.” Then “Wait, they’re discussing it. Yippee, the touchdown was blocked, I did win!!” And so on and so on.
Please forgive me here but I do poker – not sports. I don’t know who was playing, I don’t care who was playing or won the game. I was asked to NOT put the flop up until the play finished…so I waited for the screaming and yelling to subside and then I asked if it was ok to proceed. That’s the way most of that down went.
David Grey got in the game in the last few minutes of my deal. Curtis won the football game…he was ecstatic…he lost while I dealt and when I left the box, he gave me the usual dismal, sarcasm tinged, “Thanks, Linda. You did your job!”
I hate this attitude. I get along fine with Curtis but these remarks aren’t necessary. He never comes up to me at the end of the night and asks me if I made enough money in tips so why should I be concerned with his win/loss ratio when I’m dealing? If I’m cheating then it would make a difference, since I’m not I find it ridiculous that a player would ever try to make it a personal thing between the dealer and themselves when they lose.
My next game was a three handed $50-$100 Omaha 8 or Better…Ugh! Very little action, lots of dealing on my part. Then on to $15-$30 Holdem and $20-$40 Omaha 8 or Better, (this game deserves a post of its own – coming soon).
The next game was $2,000-$4,000 mixed games with all the regulars. The reason this particular game sticks in my thoughts is that most of my down was spent dealing Chinese Poker…there were seven players and Chinese is only played four handed unless they play partners, (which does happen sometimes), or three of them sit out. They debated on whether they would take out Chinese and play the other games so Doyle Brunson said, “Shuffle both decks together and deal eight hands, then we can all play.”
Hysterical!!!! Most of the players, including me, got a great laugh out of that one…best of it is, I would have done that if they all agreed.
As it ended up, Ted Forrest took a walk, the 1st hand given out was to the left of a Dealer Button; the Dealer and player on the right of the button sat out. As the Button moved around the table, they all eventually played.
The rest of my night was easy…$60-$120 Holdem, $1-$5 7 Card Stud, $4-$8 7 Card Stud, and $4-$8 Holdem.
Comdex is in town. Word is that attendance is way down from what it should be this year.
Oh yes…new today…the Player’s Diary.
