I sat out the 2016 WSOP

This is a first for me – back to my first ventures to Vegas, I always stopped by the WSOP, even if it was for a few hours. Later I had a media pass and went to take pictures and say “Hi” to players I know that come to Vegas during the series.

Time really does change everything. I had no reason or desire to be there this year. Perhaps if I still lived in Vegas and it was a hop-skip to get there, I might have but not with a 160 mile round trip in my face.

It’s not uncommon to have a jumble of poker faces and thoughts racing through my head a number of times each week, and some of those insane dreams too, but I don’t feel compelled to reach out for the contact of the poker world. Realistically someone wins and someone loses – they may even continue a streak for a time – but eventually, the majority drop by the wayside and the fresh new faces entering the race never remember the majority of players past.

Since I left Bellagio, eight years ago, there have been a lot of new faces entering the eternal grind to hit the top. Nope, I don’t know any of them. The ones that stick in my thoughts are mostly out of the mainstream except for a handful that kept up with the game and found a way to continue promoting themselves or became a very desirable commodity for an online poker site. Daniel Negreanu, perfect example.

Dealers are a dime a 100 and most are remembered because they were horrible or made a lot of mistakes.  And, no, I don’t expect anyone to remember me.  There are a few that always will say “Hello” to me and remember me, no matter how much they lost when I dealt to them…LMAO.  Not funny, but kinda! There were a few players that I can’t remember ever pushing a pot to. Strange how the cards run at times.

A-h-h-h-h-h…why the ramble? Just because. I have some things to write about and wanted an easy intro in after a long absence is one of the reasons. I’m sure the WSOP didn’t miss me at all, but guaranteed, the feeling’s mutual.

Back soon.
