Steam burns and cataracts

Wouldncha think that after cooking all these years, it would teach me to keep my fingers and hands away from sharp knives, broken glass, and hot pans/lids/etc.?

Of course, Dear, this isn’t your first day on earth or at the kitchen sink or the stove.

Wrong-o, Baby!

Some days I can chew gum and think and other days I have to wonder what happened to clarity and ability to reason to the next step of a plan.  So…I stuck my fingers right down to the lid over a pan of cooking food and yanked it up so the steam burned the shit out of two of my fingers.  Damn it!  I hate that.

I learned a long time ago that unless my skin is peeling from a burn, if I ignore it for about 10 minutes, the burning pain goes out of it.  Not that that means I can get the medium-rare skin area next to heat or rub/bump it into something and not feel it — it’s still there.  But ignore it I did and it wasn’t until a few hours later that I put my hands under hot water while washing up the dishes that I KNEW I had been burned…all said and done, it’s OK.

Where do the cataracts come into the picture?  I have them.  Kee-rist!  The one on my right eye has been there — and developing — over a number of years.  Now known as ‘fully mature’ and ain’t that a cute little phrase?  The left eye has one that’s young and nubile I guess.  But a full eye exam has me set for the next phase of this journey and that will be an appointment coming up the 1st of May where I get to find out all about having the cataract (at least one of them removed – eventually both).  I’m not sure if they will do both at the same time or…but…I know they’ll let me know.

I’m actually excited about having it done.  Looking through my right eye has been blurry for a number of years.  The word is that the lens underneath the cataract looks healthy.  Yippeee!

And on the physical report, I’m on my way to the dentist on Monday to have a crown put on a tooth that wouldn’t hold a filling well.  I’ve coaxed it along for a year now and it finally tried to crack completely in half.  I hate this shit!  So…since I couldn’t make an appointment with the dentist for a week, I did what any intelligent human would do and super glued it so it kind of stayed together.  Yeah…I’m tricky like that.  It’s not the first time I’ve kept my teeth/tooth together with super glue until the dentist could see me, but I hope it’s the last.  So Monday I will drop Riot at his school in Las Vegas – yeah, he’s been here for a week doing Spring Break at my house – then have breakfast with my buddy Carole, and then kill another hour or so, and then head for the dentist.  Once my temporary crown is in place, I’m heading back out to the sticks.

Damn it I’d love to be able to play online at PokerStars.  They are always celebrating and adding guarantees to milestone and anniversary events and I WANT TO PLAY THEM TOO!!! The latest is the 900 millionth tournament.  If your hands aren’t tied by U.S. bullshit, it should be on your must play list – including the Carnival of Tournaments series.  Big bucks waiting for some lucky players.

It’s been almost two months since I planted 45 Nelly Stevens Hollies, the weather has been fairly cool considering it’s the desert and we’re rapidly moving into May, but it’s a good thing as far as some of these plants are concerned.  It’s just been the last week that I can see growth coming on them.  Makes me so happy…I love this shit.  I love plants and digging in the dirt. Go you little, Hollies, go!

My other bushes (48 clusterberries) that I planted a few years ago got a major trimming during this past winter and they are starting to show a lot of new growth.  There’s a lot of plant action going on out here in my slice of desert dirt – all my trees and banks rose bushes are cranking.  Soon it will be so bloody hot that Mz Scout and I will walk early a.m. or late p.m. and hopefully my choices for desert planting have all been good so they continue to thrive.

This year Dan and I are going to paint the outside of the house.  This coming week we’ll be pressure washing it down, scraping, filling all screw/nail/gouge holes, sanding, and getting ready to paint it BRICK RED!  Yuppers!  That’s my choice.  I will be glad when it’s all done because it’s going to be a buttload of work.

I’m out for the night!
