The poker Bloggers are heading for Vegas

This weekend will find those of us that still blog about poker – and perhaps a few that don’t – heading for Sin City.  Count me in that group. I’ve missed the last two years.  This year my son will be here to sit the dog and the household while I’m out gallivanting around in Vegas.

Gary & Marie are going to allow me the favor of staying in their spare condo…and I’ll get to romp around Vegas with Marie part of the time.  That’s a real treat.  Friends for 24 years now and we never run into a glitch in our relationship.  That makes it even better.

I haven’t decided if I’m playing poker or just going in to check out the group of bloggers that are coming, some of them are very familiar faces, from the very first blogger’s tournament held at Sam’s Town years ago, others are new to me and me to them.  The best way to hang out with anyone that you rarely see and don’t know much about is a poker game IMHO.  You get to watch — and listen — that can give you more information than you really need to know about someone.  I expect a lot of noise and poker competition out of the group…a lot of noise.

The fun for me is going to begin on Friday.  Mixed games are kicking off at MGM around 4 p.m.  I’ll show up there sometime during the insanity but it will be geared more around my time spent with Marie.  I’m sure she’ll go with – since the last few times I made it, she played the mixed games with me.  I want to make a run by Bellagio and say hi to Carmen Bates – she’s usually working the high brush and even though we are better than good with our friendship, we rarely see each other.  You know how life gets in the way…it’s always interrupting the fun things I would love to just go do.

Saturday is the day of the tournament, Aria, at 11 a.m.  I find the buy-in to be a bit steeper than I would like, it’s $125. The $25 is juice…obviously.  I may not play it but I did sign up for it.

Regardless of whether or not I play, I plan on having a great time, kicking back without taking a computer with me, and just hanging out in the world away from cyber.

Check this out, I have my own little section over at learn.pokernews.com.  Writing some of these articles has been a lot of fun for me but some of them made me want to rip my hair out.  And if you haven’t kept up with The View from the Box, here’s the latest edition. I haven’t received one bite from a serious contributor for those pages.  *Sniff*  I’d still love to have help with it.  Anyone?

PokerWorks is going to undergo a few changes in the future, hopefully changes that will improve the site’s traffic and flow, moving away a bit from the online poker industry. Online poker’s massive nose dive in the last few years has taken its toll.  Yah…online poker is coming to the U.S. but it’s not a tidal wave and there are still a lot of restrictions.  The games will never explode and rock the mouse off of our pcs as long as our game is set by boundaries.  We need the world in on the game.  But back to the future (hee hee), look for changes to start appearing…no time line given…just keep an eye on the future.  And help me by sharing this humble site with everyone that won’t throw you in the Mariana Trench with a boat anchor surgically implanted up your butt for continually bringing up PokerWorks.

I haven’t made it back to WSOP.com for over 10 days.  Tonight I have the urge to play but have too much to do if I’m going to make it out of town for the weekend.  *Sigh*  Life gets in the way again.

Enjoy my latest sunset shot out here in the desert and come back soon. The image manager is out sick so….I linked the picture from my Facebook page. Goodnight!
