I’ve been cruising news tidbits that have to do with…??? You guessed it! Poker! I know that’s hard to believe but it is what it is. How many choices can one make in life that won’t send them to a poker game at some point? Unknown. I still chuckle about my poker beginning now and then and how it affected my life. Naw…not going to bore you or me with that right now.
I found an update on Molly Bloom in yesterday’s tidbits. If you aren’t familiar with Molly Bloom, are you living under a frigging rock? She set up high limit action for the celebrities and stars, like Tobey Maguire, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, and a host of others. Bloom also was indicted in a major online gambling bust – along with 33 others in mid April this year. In that list of names was Bill Edler, Abe Mosseri, and Peter Feldman, to name a few. None of them showed up at the WSOP this year that I know of…small wonder.
But back to Bloom, she’s back in the news due to her ‘tell-all memoir’ that should be coming out in 2014. If she does tell all, it should be one helluva story, but my guess is that she’ll only tell ‘some’ and it won’t be all the goods on all the guys.
So…while pulling up a few memories of the ‘old’ days of dealing at Bellagio, I had a flash of Annie Duke when she was playing/teaching/working with Ben Affleck on his poker skills. I dealt one of those games. She was so animated, and captivating, and ‘in her element’ that it’s fun remembering it.
Of course life has kicked her to the curb from the pokermobile. I don’t know what happened at Ultimate Bet, frankly, at this point in my life, I don’t give a damn. I can’t stand liars and cheaters but I don’t know that she did or did not – even with the supposedly new evidence that came out a few months ago on the tapes that tell all, how could one positively know she was involved in it? I can’t help but wonder why Phil Hellmuth is still a superstar and Duke’s taken the brunt of the public bullshit when he was right there with her.
Googling her brought me to her new website on decision science. We were never good buddies, but we mingled and got along, and I had a certain amount of respect for the way she carried herself. I hope she’s as animated and captivating in her new element as she was that night at the poker table.

Good to see you writing a bit more frequently. Ahhhhh, I remember the good old days also, getting paid to watch poker on television and write scintillating articles about it. With the daughter off to college this Fall, and the financial aid office seeming not to understand what is possible for us to provide towards her education, those extra dineros would have come in handy. Or even the money I was making PLAYING, for heaven’s sake! Much love to you my dear…..

I have a Facebook account, but don’t spend any time on it. I find it beyond bizarre that a man who has no ability to socially relate to others has become the arbiter of how people socially relate in the world. It is so strange to watch people sitting together and relating to their smart phones rather than to each other.
Jan, the whole social media is strange IMHO. But, I like Facebook for the simple reason that I connect with family and friends and can troll/follow their lives in pictures and news. Keep in mind that many of us don’t live in an area where we can sit side-by-side with those we want to connect with and visit for a few minutes out of the day or week. So it works for me…
