Flashback to 2005 – deck of cards of World Champions

Perhaps one should never go back and start sifting through old documents, letters, emails, or any snippets of history that can wrap the ‘need to know’ somewhere in the base of your skull and send it throughout your entire nervous system.

It’s the email thing. I got started last week when I posted on Howard Lederer’s becoming the ‘Professor.’

While all that was going on I had fragments of emails popping in and out for requests from people over the years. It’s always a request for me to help them, usually in furthering their careers, which doesn’t bother me too much. Although the thought has occurred to me it has never been about promoting me or working on building me, it’s always about them. No, Howard didn’t approach me, read the post.

So let’s move right along. I got this email, and so did a lot of other people. I could remove the email addresses but that is part of what makes it interesting to me. Perhaps I’m twisted.

Gentlemen:

In 1989, I created the concept of a collectible deck of cards of the world champions of poker.

From 1989 through 1995 I interview well over 500 poker champions……”face to face” at various major poker tournaments, here in Las Vegas and in California.

Then I met Mr. Chan and Mr. Rose at the Mirage Hotel, and we discussed being partners on the deck.

Originally, Mr. Lyle Berman was going to invest Five-Thousand Dollars…..but Mr. Chan in his place said he would like to be my partner, and that Jack Rose was his partner.

So after many, many meetings, it was decided…..that we go to Mr. Chan’s attorney.

Mr. Chan’s attorney drew up a contract…..which stated that Mr. Chan would own my copyright……and I stopped it right there….and said no and walked out of the attorney’s office.

Without my knowledge, Messrs. Chan and Rose while at the Bicycle Club in Bell Gardens, California, had a meeting of the very same players I had a contract with for the collectible deck of cards.

Every single player signed another contract with Messrs. Chan and Rose….and all of them “BREACHED THEIR CONTRACT WITH ME>……which was for IMAGE….APPEARANCES……TV COMMERICALS….ETC…..

Upon returning to Las Vegas, I was sitting in the Union Plaza poker room….about 2 months later….and an acquaintance came up to me and said….”contratulations….I see you finally got your deck done!”…..and I replied…..

“you are kidding….!”

Well I walked to the Horseshoe Hotel Casino and at the World Series of Poker…..Messrs. Chan and Rose were selling the decks for $10.00 each….and am sure no receipts were given….nor taxes paid.

Well I was FURIOUS to say the least.

I already has over $40,000.00 (forty-thousand dollars) worth of invoices from Men the Master, Scotty, and Antran….and a $3,000.00 (three-thousand dollar deposit check….) made payable to Paulson Gaming Products.

I did not know that the aforement deck was made…..and

PAULSON GAMING PRODUCTS WERE TOTALLY aware of me, and my copyrights….because their legal department contacted the COPYRIGHT OFFICE TO VERIFY….

Well when PAULSON GAMING PRODUCTS GAVE ME $3000.00 as a GOOD FAITH MONEY DEPOSIT….and PAULSON WAS TO MAKE THE DECKS AND WE WERE TO SPLIT THE PROFITS…..

PAULSON EVEN ASKED ME TO WORK FOR THEM….AND IT CAN BE VERIFIED…BECAUSE THEY PAID FOR MY SHERRIFF’S CARD…..

Now since PAULSON GAMING WAS AWARE OF THE FACT THAT THE COPYRIGHT was MINE…..I cannot understand why they would make MY DECK WITHOUT GETTING MY COPYRIGHTS…….AND ASKING MY PERMISSION TO DO SO….

I NEVER GOT A DIME FROM CHAN….ROSE….OR PAULSON GAMING…..

HERE’S MY QUESTION?

WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD PAULSON GAMING GIVE ME ALL OF CHAN’S & ROSE’S AND PAULSON’S WORK RELATIVE TO THIS DECK….AND I MEAN:

ALL CONTRACTS
COLOR SEPARATIONS

RELEASES ETC.

IF THEY WERE NOT GUILTY?

THAT’S THE BOTTOM LINE.

Very truly yours,

Maryann Dublino

I did send back a short response, stating that it was interesting stuff.

There’s a bit more but I haven’t sorted through it yet. So, yeah, I get the drift of the email, but why me? More later.
