The Drug Hangover

One of us feels like crap – that would be me. It’s not such a long story but it isn’t any fun and the after effect is still crippling…thankfully it wears off.

I’m really a sissy and can’t handle intense pain and that’s how I spent most of yesterday – between allergies, sinus issues, and my night retainer, they did some kind of job on my bite, which in turn affected three lower, back molars and they went into the defiant ‘take this’ attitude by becoming just irritated enough to push up above my normal bite so every move (yah, I’m a grinder) caused pain that is probably used in torture camps around the world. FK!

It felt worse than a toothache, continually throbbing and aching down below the gum line until I was considering a hammer and a pair of pliers. Tylenol, Motrin, hot packs, cold packs, all around the house and back did nothing. I went to my sis late last night and begged for Hydrocodone – which always makes me sick but it does kill the pain.

You didn’t come here to read about my agony? See ya!

It was agony. I finally went to sleep about 2 a.m. and back up at 5 a.m. to take another dose – gagging down a piece of sourdough bread to keep from puking instead of taking it on an empty stomach. Almost 24 hours later my bite is almost back to normal and the only thing left is the drug hangover. Almost a headache, definitely a grouchy sensitive stomach, and no relief in sight until I sleep through a session tonight. There’s just no ‘feel good’ spot I can settle into.

It’s probably going to require another trip to the dentist which I am dreading because of the drive time and the expense. The expense – times are tough for everyone and I’m in the same boat.

So…let’s get out of my mouth and continue onward.

I find myself in a bit of a shock over PokerStars acquiring Full Tilt Poker and being able to step back into the U.S. market with both sites when online gambling is approved either by state or the feds. I’m not in dismay, just rolling all of it around so it connects and makes sense is a bit of a trick. This Inside Shuffle has most of the basics of what has transpired lately with PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, the DoJ, etc.

One person described PokerStars as saving the U.S. players. Horse shit! PokerStars is saving PokerStars and even the amount of money that was paid to acquire Full Tilt Poker is nothing compared to what one would have to shell out to buy the entire Full Tilt platform, let alone picking up a monopoly on the online poker market.

Do not take this as a statement against PokerStars, it isn’t. I do admire the way they do business, but they are not looking to salvage players for any other reason than to become a stronger force in the online poker market and take control of an already fully operational poker room with all the bells and whistles. It’s a great business move.

I missed the Olympics this year – other than watching a few clips from a slow moving internet connection. I did manage to catch a few things that struck me as ‘humanity needs to take a chill pill’ and figure out what’s at stake here instead of being raggedy assed bastards and bitching about hairdos and non-essential noise. I always cry at sporting events so it’s just as well that I missed them. Yah, those people that put their life into winning and their heart into competing can bring a sniffle any time of day.

Tony G went to the Olympics with his Lithuanian Mens Basketball Team. I bet he had the time of his life, even though his team didn’t take home gold. I absolutely love The G’s quick wit and attitude about life.

I posted this on Facebook recently:

Damn it! Went into Pahrump this p.m. to get dog food. A house down the street has dogs they keep tied out in the yard in various places. Makes one sick to see it, especially with the desert heat. One of the dogs had tried to crawl under the field run fence and managed to get caught in a bunch of rope that kept it pinned to the fence. FK. I stopped and honked the horn for 3-4 minutes. No one came out.

I called my neighbor Amy and asked her to call animal control as I didn’t have their #. She did. I headed for town and called Monte and told him the deal, him and my sis live right next to me. He was going down with water and would see what he could do.

I hit the animal control office within about 10 minutes of leaving home. Amy said she called them and no one answered, she had left a message. I found an officer just going out to the truck and he had that address as his destination.

I finished my shopping and went back home to find out that the dog had died. Monte and Vickie Richter got there and poured water in its listless mouth but it was too late. It was only 112 or so today. They said animal control showed but the dog died just about the same time.

These asshole people had left for about a week (supposedly) and had someone that was supposed to come over and take care of the animals. Animal control has been to there house before as I’ve seen the truck when I’ve driven by.

Monte said a next door neighbor came out and started yelling at the animal control guy that ‘those people’ had horses in their back pen that died of starvation a few years ago. He and sis left and the neighbor stayed to keep on the officer’s ear.

I am just sick over it. I wasn’t stopping by myself to try and pull a full grown Pit out of a fence – it must’ve been out of its mind by that time. I don’t feel guilty about driving off but now I just wish I’d headed to town an hour earlier.

People are the worst disease of the earth. I can’t help but wonder if these people have children. If so, all I can say is, “those poor kids.”

If you have kids or animals that you don’t want to take care of, please give them to someone that does. PLEASE!

It still makes me sick.

I am a Facebook troll, I like to keep up with my family and friends but rarely post anything. I am pretty amazed at what some people write about on Facebook. And the goofy apps that they put in their post are ridiculous to begin with – like who takes the time to make this shit up and then tries to get 9 or 10M ‘likes’ out of it? Of course every time you ‘like’ something or go to access an app, you are giving them the right to use all of your friend’s lists and your information, etc. Hence, me no like or accept an invite. Paranoia rules supreme in my world.

A couple of pictures I took recently – I hope you like them as much as I do. The moon was climbing and drifting in and out of cloud cover.

My long-time friend, Sylvia Hart, came out to spend the weekend with me a few weeks ago. I had a blast. We used to work the Mirage and Bellagio, she’s still at Bellagio. We took Scout to the desert for a hike, played Guitar Hero, went to sis’s for dinner and an after dark swim. She’s promised to come out again in the coming months and we may make the drive to Death Valley and do a hike – it will be much cooler then.

So one of us is going to sleep. That would be me.

  1. Having lost 180 funny money while holding A 2 4 4 with a flop of 8 4 6 I feel the need of screaming at flushes and what not; failing to beat the river and the turn, I comment that perhaps Poker Stars will release my Two Dollars and cheat Haley out of the ninety cents.

    Thank you. I feel better.

  2. That’s pretty funny stuff Ten Mile. The rumor is out that the DoJ may not pay back winnings. Perhaps .80 of your $2 was from winning so now you only have $1.20 in your account…just sayin’ but I do want to play online poker again, Damn it!

  3. A short story about defunct on-line poker sites: Two closed down. They sent me checks to close out my accounts (very nice of them).

One was for twenty-two dollars; one was for twenty-five dollars.

I took the checks to my bank and deposited them. They were rejected by the bank. I wanted to know why.

The Chief Accountant (a female of line backer proportions) explained to me that each check would cost me fourteen doolars at the local level, and just over twenty dollars at the International level.

Did I, she asked, wish to proceed with the deposit transaction.

I think anything less than a couple of hundred isn’t worth the effort, let the site have it.

  4. Funny story about foreign checks, assuming they came in from a foreign bank – if they’re from a US bank how could they possibly not cash them? – I had an affiliate check from a company in Canada one time (some years ago when I was on my own and not part of the corporation that runs me now :-)) I couldn’t cash it through my personal account PERIOD! They would not take it. But my business account took it with no problem. I hate banks…just sayin…
