A few days away

I spent Saturday and Sunday at the Rio – an average of 7 hours each day – and on Monday my brain jump-started my direction to home.  I have been running on fumes and my battery ran out of juice a long time ago.  I couldn’t find any form of energy or drive that would allow me to stay in the city for another night…so about 4pm I was heading out through Red Rock Canyon towards home.  I stopped at Pahrump Walmart for a few items and then hit home.  My little place has the key to solving head trips and issues that plague me from time to time.

But the drive out over the mountain was also healing balm for the occasional siege of black depression that finds me now and then.  I spent a large part of the drive talking with God.  I approached my supreme creator with all kinds of issues and thoughts about the earth, family, and life in general, and I know he listened.  Yes, this potty mouthed grannie believes very much in God.

My PC was set up, plants that needed tended to outside were watered, my dinner was ready, all by 7pm.  I worked until midnight on PokerWorks and finally gave up to ship my carcass into bed.  I slept, waking up a few times, but really slept well and long.  Life feels better now.  I’m spending tonight at home and heading back into Vegas and the poker noise at the Rio on Wednesday.  In the meantime, an update from my daze at the Rio.

I stood front and offside watching Men Nguyen receive his 7th Gold Bracelet for winning the $10K 7 Card Stud Championship.  I found it interesting that the US National Anthem was played at his ceremony.  He didn’t look as bad as I thought he would after reading about his beer consumption at the final table.  This time I didn’t get hit in the back when I raised my camera up over my head.

The lady’s room becoming the men’s room:

I stopped another time when a small lady porter was standing in the doorway just before the break hit, to ask her if the restroom was cleaned after the men used it.  She said, “Yes.”  Umnhhhhh.  Perhaps if the Rio is sold and the WSOP moves to another location, they will figure out a better balance for the restroom situation.

I made it to the Bad Beat Bar, very briefly, and got a shot of Annie Duke as she was giving one of the free seminars that are put on each day by the WSOP Academy:

And took a picture of the bar:

It seems to be dwarfed and out of place in the room, not like a beckoning mecca for the forlorn losers that have a sad tale to spin.  In the corner to the right, just upon entering the room, these gals must have: A) their A-game solidly cemented B) Not play poker C) Practicing for the next Brunson Beer Pong Championship at the Hogs and Heifers D) Never had a bad beat tale to tell

All in all, the Series is heating up and so is the temperature, the wind still blows but it’s no longer cool, it’s summer in the desert.  I’m out of here until another time.
