The week in a nutshell

play poker on PokerStars. Hang out with Riot at the coach while he plays Super Mario Galaxy. Have lunch with Katie and her mom. Get the Silver Steed detailed out – the short version.

The long version of getting the Steed detailed makes me crabby just thinking about it. I went up to the northwest part of town around the old digs, to meet Katie and her mom for lunch because there’s a Fabulous Freddy’s on the corner of Fort Apache and Charleston and a restaurant right behind it. I had promised myself that every year and a half to two years, I would take the Steed in to have the leather seats cleaned, carpets shampooed, the wood trim polished up, etc. It’s been two and a half years since I drove it home so this was the perfect time and situation. I paid an arm and three legs for the service of having a ‘complete-complete’ done with a hand wash.

Expected time for cleaning was two and a half hours…fine, lunch was waiting. I never have the best service done at Fabulous Freddys and one would have to ask why I continue to go back. Partly because it’s convenient to an area I’m familiar with, there’s a place to relax and dine while the work is being done, and because I drag the manager out and force him to go over my truck with me until it’s done right. Sometimes they give me a free wax coupon or some such nonsense but it usually goes to waste because they set a time limit on usage.

I had a fantastic lunch and got all kinds of baby hugs and giggly little girl laughter out of Katie. She’s cut two bottom teeth since I saw her last.

When I went back to pick up the Steed, it had been washed/waxed and the carpet had been cleaned. That was it – close to steam coming out my ears. UGH! I found the manager. I followed him and the detail guy around pointing out spots and dirt that didn’t get cleaned originally, and I bitched about it…yup…it’s my thing. I pay for a service, I want it done the way that it’s supposed to be done. The job got done but it took awhile longer.

The wind. That’s part of the week in a nutshell. It hasn’t quit howling for three days now. I don’t even want to step outside.

Thursday is a root canal day for me. Kind of interesting in a sick sort of way. One of my front teeth has a problem. It’s impossible to just put a pin in it, and crown it, and not expect problems down the road. There’s more than one equation in the problem but the part that is looming paramount right now is that the tooth is not above the gum line enough for the crown to cup over the tooth – even with a pin in the root and crown – it won’t hold up over a long period of time…it will eventually break down and I’ll have a repeat disaster.

The solution. When the root canal and a temporary crown are in the works, some wires will be put around/underneath/or attached somehow to the root of the tooth and it will slowly be extracted – just enough so that it will come up above the gum line – figure it to take about three months for the process to complete, some type of gum work (ugh) will take place and then the bone in the jaw will grow/fill in the empty area below the tooth and everything will be as it should be for the new crown. I hope I don’t have wires that make me crazy for three months but there are worse things in life. And root canals? They really don’t bother me too much either, do it, walk away, and in a day or so, things are all better.

Friday is a day of meeting a friend that lives in Australia for business/lunch and then possibly I will be at the Venetian to cover the Jennifer Harman tournament in the afternoon. It’s time for me to shake out and move around a little bit. But if this damned wind doesn’t quit…I dunno know.

Nice little run in poker on the Chasing Chris Ferguson project – update tomorrow. My BR is up around $620 now…that’s from -0- kids! All on PokerStars. Give it a whirl.
