Is there a doctor in the house?

There’s always a need for a Dr. You never know when someone may choke…an elderly person with a heart problem might keel over…AA gets busted and a player goes ballistic…etc., etc., etc.

It’s been said the safest place to have a heart attack is in a poker room. Trained medical people, (security), are available and their response time is ‘top of the line’. It’s not as if you’re driving down a lonely road or on the free-way with no way for anyone to get to you or even know what might be going on with your medical history.

We rely on the trained professional to assist us in all moments of crisis…after all…a severe crises is one where we can’t breathe, our heart stopped, our motor functions cease to operate…all right…we can say all these things happen when we get AA beaten by 2 back door, running, perfect cards, but seriously back to our physical health and all we hold dear.

While a Dr. in the poker room may save your life in the emergency, what about the Dr. that plays too long and all the time?

You’ve been playing $30-$60 holdem and you see your Dr. playing $400-$800 mixed games. He’s not playing on an occasion, he’s there playing every night. If he takes a break for 2 or 3 months, he’s back with a vengeance, every night for 5 months straight. He plays up and down, higher and lower limits but never anything under $100-$200.

What if you see him give a prescription to a couple of players? Will you get one for anything you want…bad beat blues…pain in the neck…???

He’s not the only Dr. you’ve come across while you’re playing poker. You know an anesthesiologist that plays high limit. How would you like to be put under by him for an early morning surgery? What about the nurse that plays low limit and drinks too much, what if you wake up in intensive care with her by your bedside? Are you ready for their sage advise and sure that all your vital signs are being checked and reported correctly by them?

A lot of small towns would never allow this type of behavior from a trained professional that serves the town…teachers, doctors, judges…how can anyone make a skilled decision when they’ve had too little rest and their savings/earnings are on the line because of their extra-curricular activities?

How would you like to be their first patient on Monday morning? Scary thought!!! What if you beat them out of the pot they needed to break even? Hang on to your arteries here.

The next time you’re wondering if there’s a Dr. in the house…let’s all pray there isn’t one around, that they’re all home getting their rest and totally capable of fulfilling their Hippocratic Oath.

Think ‘bad beats’ were bad…they’re getting worse.

See you there!
