The overview

We live in a frightful day and age – a time when our government is making excuses for presidential behavior. The behavior isn’t new or different but lies were told under oath to our nation by someone that’s supposed to have our best interest in mind. Married men and women have had affairs for years! Will it stop? No! Is it right? This writer suggests that you have to look within to decide. Would you be totally upset and unhappy with a mate that cheated on you? Wow! Usually your friends and family know . . . but in this case the whole world knows about it.

Our babies are having babies and killing them. Drug abuse, child abuse, spousal and parental abuse are out of control. Our earth is in trouble because we continue to pollute and waste and on some days it seems like most of us just don’t give a damn!! We don’t speak up when we know something is wrong. We allow ourselves to graze and feed and sleep through a most of our lives – just turning our eyes in the other direction.

Everyone has an excuse for what’s happening to them and why it’s happening to them. We cry when we feel that we have the worst of it and we expect our friends and families to listen. We gloat and expand our chests when we think we have the best of it and we expect the world to listen. And in the meantime, the price of postage just went up!

Sometimes we have one magic moment that we wish had been captured on video because it’s movie material and it’s something we need to reinforce in our own minds that just for a second, just for one second, we did something . . . SOMETHING . . . we took a stand, we controlled a situation, we fought back, we spoke up when no one else would, we opened our hearts to someone that needed it – but for the most part – we are a greedy and grasping society. We destroy! We tear apart everything that’s useful and good and grind it into the earth as we march over it, justifying our existence and our being as we rip and shred.

Which brings us to poker. The art of poker is beyond and above desecration and destruction. Poker is a pure art form . . . mathematics, odds, social graces, betting, losing, winning, learning and knowledge. And yet . . . just when you think you’ve reached the point that shoots you high above everyone else, you find that you don’t know diddly squat. Poker has a way of equalizing all of us.

Very few players truly make their living playing poker. There are too many variables involved for a person to ever bank on a given situation or return. Too many times we see players come into all the limits and start bragging, “Whenever I need money, I just get into a poker game!” Right on, Buddy, you must be the live one here.

It just doesn’t work that way. If you took the same starting cards with X amount of players and gave those same starting cards to a different set of X amount of players, the play of the hand would never be the same. The odds will dictate that if you start with skill cards, (premium hands), you should win the pot so many times with a field of X. Wonderful!!!! But how many of us have the patience and insight to realize that? That seems to be a universal problem with everything, not just poker.

This writer believes that the player that starts with skill cards and knows when to throw them away . . . gracefully . . . and knows when to jam it up . . . that’s when you’ve come to the crossroads, the crossroads that dictate what our makeup is all about. We allow people to be people, we understand the overview. We don’t ask for more than the Earth can give us and we replenish what we take. That is poker . . . that is existence . . . that is mankind . . . that is life!!!!

See you there!
